Wellstar Douglas Hospital / Wellstar ********** Services is billing me, as an uninsured patient at the time of service, in the amount of $468.75 for Covid-19 testing preformed on November 23, 2021, conducted at their Douglasville *************** At the direction of my physician, I had the Covid-19 test completed at their Douglasville ************** facility instead of going to my local neighborhood CVS pharmacy. I did inquire at the time of conversation with my physician if I could go to my local CVS, as I was concerned about the cost as I had lost my insurance earlier in the year. I was assured the test was free of charge and needed to be completed at their drive-up office location, so I went to their office as instructed. Please note that I had two additional Covid-19 tests completed in the following months after the November 23, 2021, testing at a local CVS that I have never received billing for services rendered. Wellstar indicates the government stopped reimbursing for Covid-19 testing, therefore, I am responsible for paying them. Wellstar failed to timely submit their requests to the federal government for such reimbursement. Wellstar's first attempt for submitting the reimbursement for this claim to the federal government, per billing, was March 22, 2022. They waited four months after the date of service! Wellstar is making their internal failures, and ineffective management twenty months into Covid at the time of service, the consumers financial burden and expect me to pay them $468.75 for a service that was free to me. As a medical consumer, I should be protected from these unethical medical business practices by Wellstar Health System.
