      My wife passed away on ***** **** of this year and we were only in the ****** area so she could see her grandkids. I put everything in 2 storage units because Curry said they didn't have a big one. I paid on time or early every time. I decided to move to the ******** ******* area where my family lives and in about 4 months I emptied the 1st unit in the middle of the month and asked if they would credit the rest of the month to my other unit and was told they couldn't do that. The next month or so I moved the remainder of our belongings and was refused a return of any of the remaining balance. The ONLY thing they did do was send me a $20.00 check to my new address for the return of each of the 2 keys. When I gave them a bad review on the internet they pretty much got onto me saying something to the effect that they couldn't believe I posted my experience on ****** reviews and included the fact that these storage units were supposed to be safe, fenced in and under surveillance with their cameras. It was NOT secure as while unloading my 1st unit I had a guy walk right up to my unit asking for money! Being on SSI I only receive $****** a month so I was at least hoping for the remainder of the month for each unit to be refunded. So they kept the remainder of my money and put the unit as vacant for everyone else to use. Double dipping if you will!

      Dear BBB,

      The dispute that the former tenant raised was on concerning return of rent from the date that the storage keys were returned and the end of the month.  The key for one unit was returned on ********* 14, 2022 and the key for the second unit was returned on ********* 19, 2022.  As addressed in our policies and procedures and in the self storage lease agreement, our agreement is a month-to-month lease.  The first paragraph of the lease reads, "Said space is to be occupied and used for the purposes specified herein and subject to the conditions set forth, beginning on the Rental Agreement date listed above and continuing month to month until terminated." Further, the last sentence of "Section 9. Termination" in the lease agreement specifically states, "Rent prepaid for any period in which the Occupant moves out early shall not be refunded."  The rent from the date the keys were returned and the end of the month was not refunded as outlined by our lease agreement.  The security deposits for both units were refunded by check and mailed to Mr. ****.  As company policy, all refunded security deposits are issued by check in order to create a record of payment, which helps in situations like these.  

      To address his concerns of panhandling, the ****** ****** Self Storage Facility is fenced and includes an electronic key-coded gate.  In the past 24 months or so, the facility was upgraded with LED pole lighting and additional security cameras; however, the facility does not have an on-site office or on-site personnel to police the grounds.  This facility is in a high traffic commercial corridor with city street lighting and the area tenants include motel, ****** ***** **** ***** ******** ****** ******** ******* *** ********* etc.  ******* Drive is one the busines roads in ******* County with 20,000+ vehicles per day.  While I appreciate Mr. ****'s humor in suggesting the panhandler was a Curry employee, our maintenance crew is uniformed and our work trucks are professionally wrapped with our company logo and phone number.

      As supporting documentation, I have included a copy of the lease agreement that Mr. **** signed, the Self Storage Policies and Procedures that Mr. **** initialed, a copy of the refunded checks for the $20 security deposit for each unit rented, and a screenshot of the ****** Review that Mr. **** posted which includes my response.  Once I was made aware of Mr. ****'s disparaging review, I rebutted his claim of "BUNCH OF CROOKS" in a professional and courteous manner, which looks to have triggered this complaint to the Better Business Bureau.  We do take our reputation very seriously, and intend to defend it when falsehoods are made.
