  I was there November 13 - December 17 2023 I came in for help w binge drinking under the impression this was a well established place that almost operated like a halfway house, but stricter. I was 4 days sober upon arrival. I have an audio recording w ****** & other staff members questioning them on illegal practices. ******* being under the influence, messing up medication delivery. Being told by medication was stored at someones ***************************** couldnt get more. Medication mismanagement, NO detox nurse despite accepting full-blown detoxing patients and handling them with a generic cocktail of meds, ****************** They gave me medication to hand out. They kept pushing me to take medications that would have killed me. I told them I have an autoimmune disease. I had to seek an outside during my stay. They kept trying to give me narcotics & rx sleep meds that I refused &a blood pressure medication. They got rx in my name I didn't take & some pills I had NO rx for. I live in *******, scheduled an outside appointment, Emory docs can confirm.Teatment center, no routine or counceling priority. I didnt see a counselor for 3 weeks! When brought it to their attention they suggest I stay longer! "sessions" weren't structured nor on time. The intern therapist, ****** said she was just finishing her time until her internship was over and would never look back! Two other staff members supported during that time, ************ They wanted to see a change. More people died after I left DUE to the issues I addressed. I brought ALL of this to their attention & told them they were going to kill someone! It's all in an hour long audio recording. I reported it to the health department & hoped they would stop. Soberity is my priority and that is why it has taken me over a year to speak out. I have been sober inspite of that place NOT because of ****** am seeing I am a rare, lucky one!   I arrive at Discovery house on 6/13/23 & bfore arriving I made a $2000 deposit & once I arrived I made another $2000 payment. On 6/15/23 another $2000 was charger to my debit card without me knowing & again another $2000 on 6/16/23 without me knowing. On 6/18/23 I had medical issue with gout in my foot & could not walk or sleep at night from pain. I let the staff member know I need go to walk in clinic or somewhere for the ************ member seen my foot & how bad was swollen & red. I said something to staff member ever time seen one which was on once in morning time & once at night time when they bring other meds to everyone, which was only time or way I had to talk to staff member, since no phone was in our apartment. On 6/20/23 at night around 10pm I went to ER cause pain in foot was so bad. One client who was in same apartment as me took me to ********** member was noticed was going to ER. ER ran some test & give meds & wanted back to Discovery House around 3am on 6/21/23. It took Discovery House 2 days after that get my meds & give the meds for gout. I end up leaving the Discovery house on 6/24/23 because of the medical issue & not being able walk & pain in foot. I never left the apartment other than going to ER. I was never took or attended any classes at Discovery house or seen any one there bout mental health & any treatment because of my medical issue. I never cause any problems while at Discovery house & treated all *************** with respect. Discovery house was paid total of $8000 which was a 30 day ************* was only there for 12 days & left because of medical problems, I had no control over. Discovery house or *********************** has not made any effort in refund some of my money & will not ask my calls,emails,text & even mail them letter. I don't expect all my money back but days I was not there I do except a refund for them days & it being medical reasons. I also got a $6000 bill form ER for their service & should took me walk in clinic or something.

  Discovery house is advertised as an addiction recovery facility. Unfortunately my experience was not aligned with what was advertised. As a result, I left the facility and left my wallet, containing approximately $200 cash and credit cards and other documents behind along with all my medications. Based on multiple conversations with the president of the organization I have been waiting nearly 45 days trying to get Discovery House to return my belongs with no success. At this point I feel the fair thing to do is share these unprofessional business processes with the BBB so that others considering engaging with Discovery House are aware of their unscrupulous business practices. For the past 45 days they have been holding cash, credit cards, medical cards, driver license identification and other governmental documentation refusing to send them back to me.
