I hired Gainesville Mech. to perform a cleaning/maintenance on my hvac that had kept us comfortable all year. It wasn't having any problems.Their technician stated our unit was VERY LOW in refrigerant, had a weak blower ************** showed me where there was a small leak in my evap pan (fyi this didn't affect the heating or cooling); he also said my honeywell zone board had the emergency heat wires in the wrong terminal. He recommended us REPLACING our heat pump system because it was OLD and had "alot of problems". When I asked him why we haven't been having any problems; he stated that "it hasn't got cold enough weather ". I asked him for the price for repairs & he saiid he could perform a leak test for $300 to show me where any leaks were but that his company DOESNT REPAIR LEAKS (solder) b/c of liability, so I would be wasting my money for him to do that. THEY NEED TO LIST THIS ON THEIR WEBSITE! He also said the pump needed 2-5 lbs of refrigerant at $135/lb, the capacitor needed replaced + the leak test done+ connect the wires to the correct terminal = approx $900 so that I needed to go ahead and replace the unit because my 13 yr old heat pump was too expensive to fix. He left & emailed their proposal the next day. Their "BUDGET" cheapest ****** heat pump system was $12,106!! I was shocked.THANKFULLY I decided to hire another company for a 2nd opinion/repair. He found my R22 was only 1 lb low; the leak test showed that the ******** valve ball just needed to be reseated and there was a tiny leak at a joint in the handler;the capacitor was a little weak but didn't need replaced & is working fine;the wiring on my Honeywell zone board WAS NOT wired wrong; the evap drain pan small leak was NOTHING OF CONCERN affecting the performance of the unit. I only paid the other company $288 for 1 lb/refrigerant + moving a thermostat from one room to another + labor to check everything out. Gainesville Mechanical has lost my trust and my business.
