Business originally quoted us $4850 for waterproofing and mold remidiation. They also made us pay before the work was done. At first they only did mold remidiation, and left standing water in the crawlspace. Me and my agent had to call and explain the original quote. They agreed and came back. However this time, there employee only came to paint one wall, and didn't know which one. They were supposed to waterproof walls and lay down plastic. I had to send them back and call their boss, to make sure they were doing a vapor barrier too. Finally they agreed to do both. After they left , we were told we have termites. We called our original pest control. After they inspected the house. They took pictures of the standing water and mold that was still under our house. I thought I hired professionals to rid the mold, and prevent water from getting under our house. They were only interested in the least amount of work for the most amount of money. Vapor barrier was not done to code.

      Business response

      11/09/2021

Business Response /* (1000, 9, 2021/10/29) */ We regret any confusion and have tried to work with the client to resolve their issues with our service and performance. This all started with a request for proposal to do minor repair concerns for a home purchase. We were asked to provide an estimate for Mold Remediation in the crawlspace and Waterproofing of the crawlspace wall which was found to have water infiltration during the home inspection. The proposal was for a total of $4850. Mold cleanup was 3700 and waterproofing was 1150. The seller agreed to pay $3740, and a check was given to the buyers at closing to pay for services and the check was then given to us when we completed the mold remediation on August 8, 2021. Because the check had been written for more than the estimate, we placed $40 on account. It was to be used towards the waterproofing when we were scheduled to complete the work in the estimate. On September 21 the clients emailed and said their understanding was that the original quote was for mold remediation, installation of a vapor barrier and water proofing. We had previously explained to the new owner in an email that waterproofing is one service and vapor barrier installation is another completely different service. We scheduled the waterproofing for September 27 and then completed the work. The client was not happy that there was no vapor barrier afterwards, so we prepared a proposal to do the vapor barrier for a fee of $1595. This was not well received. They insisted that all of the work including the vapor barrier should have been done for the $4850. Attempts to resolve the disagreement and several discussions later with the client and realtor we agreed to do install the vapor barrier for the fee of $4850 and completed the work on October 4th, giving them nearly $1600 of supplies and labor for free. During the waterproofing and vapor barrier installation we informed the client that water **** still enter into the crawlspace from the crawlspace vents which were at or below grade and that this situation should be addressed to prevent future mold growth. They replied that we should take care of it because we were waterproofing the crawlspace. I informed the client this condition was noted in their inspection, and they should have had the sellers repair the vents and that digging out vents was not waterproofing. I explained again that water proofing is sealing of the masonry where water intrusion was noted in the inspection and had nothing to do with crawlspace vents. We completed the work and several days later we have bad reviews on the web which we responded to. Then they contacted the BBB and here we are. As part of your complaint, they then added we did not do the vapor barrier properly stating the barrier is to extend all the way up the walls and seal everything in the crawlspace. We did not respond till now as I realized no matter how much we tried we could not please this client and it was time to move one. I will note that their expectations are not realistic, and they appear to be misinformed. The way they describe the vapor barrier installation is for a complete encapsulation of the crawlspace which not a vapor barrier. The vapor barrier we installed is overlapped the 13-18 inches and the seam glued to prevent moisture from getting into the crawlspace. The vents are the reason the standing water is still in the crawlspace and will be there every time it rains until this condition is resolved which we inform the client. I will note the client told us that they had gotten all the mold work that we did in Columbus or Augusta (not sure which) for $1000 for a 4000 square foot house, which again is not realistic prices in Atlanta or anywhere. In closing we did the mold work and received confirmation from the client it was fine. Then we did the additional work and it appeared to be fine, and I don't know what happened. I also did work for free (valued at $1595) to try and appease the clients. They still wanted more, I guess when we stood fast and would not do the crawlspace vents they were unhappy. Consumer Response /* (3000, 11, 2021/11/02) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) This whole statement ignores the fact that there is still mold under our house, and it's only been 3 months. We thought the mold remidiation was great until we had a professional look at it. The pros took the pics of the mold. This response did not also address the vapor barrier that was not done to code. Also, the first time they came, they left water under the house. I asked the owner if that was right. He said they only remove the water after waterproofing. However, they never cleared the water from under the house, after coming back. They just layed tarp over huge puddles. Business Response /* (4000, 13, 2021/11/03) */ As previously discussed with the client, the mold situation will continue to recur until the water infiltration from the crawlspace vents is corrected by digging them out. The standing water would soak into the ground if the situation with the vents were corrected as we originally advised. We installed the vapor barrier correctly, but over the water at his insistence. The client is looking for encapsulation, which we did not quote and were not hired to do; again this is another type of treatment which we don't do. We quoted mold remediation and waterproofing; the vapor barrier was installed for free. We would be happy to clean and seal the mold again for no charge as soon as the situation is corrected with the vents that are allowing water into the crawlspace. Consumer Response /* (2000, 15, 2021/11/04) */ (The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.) This works, however we would of never called you guys over, if you gave us a correct estimate on how to fix the problem. Not too sure how many ppl give estimates on something they never saw.
