The wood part of the deck was rotted and required replacement. The floor of the deck is Trex and no work was required. Goodson was to supply wood, materials and labor to replace all wood.This consisted of 14 6 by 6 columns and column caps, 12 deck rails and rail tops and bottoms, a bench, wood around the outside of the deck floor and all hardware required. The problems with his work were as follows: His installed columns were not level and most were different heights. the column tops an in fact, all cuts were uneven. The deck rail cuts were made improperly, leaving large seperations between the rail tops and columns. In addition the rail tops were uneven and nailed at different heights. The wood around the outside base was not secured, leaving large separations between this outside base and the deck floor. The bench was not level, with one side higher than the other and the bench legs were crooked and improperly spaced. Proper hardware was not used or used improperly, leaving all deck rails unsteady. The rails and bench was not beveled as agreed and the column caps were not installed. The work is so poor and unsightly that we will have to hire another contracter to remove all wood installed by Goodson and replace with new wood. Goodson is clearly unqualified to correct the problem and since all wood was cut improperly, none can be reused.
