BEWARE! This hospital emergency room doesn't deserve 1 star but 5 red flags!!The ER doctors and the Maui Memorial Emergency Medical ************** are just plain crooks! In December 2021, my teen had a food allergy and was treated in the emergency room at Maui Memorial. The staff was great then. We've been to other emergency rooms in the past and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. An ER doctor examines my teen for about 5 minutes then prescribes some steroids to be mixed in juice to swallow that the ER nurse administered. We stayed for another 45 minutes of observation, surrendered our United Healthcare information that notes a $200 ER fee. So we left there expecting just that **** which we happily did pay upon receiving the **** about 1 month later. About that same time, I got a **** for $1700 from Maui Memorial Emergency Medical ************** in which United Healthcare paid them $300 and I was notified that I didn't have any responsibility for the $1400 balance. Then in March, I began to get calls from Pacific Healthworks in ********** trying to collect the balance of $1400 as they claim that Maui Memorial Emergency Medical ************** doesn't have any agreement with United Healthcare. Pacific Healthworks calls every 1-2 weeks reminding me they will send my balance to collections even though I've asked them repeatedly to send my an updated **** to my new Hawaii address which they never did. I asked the group if there is any discount but they could only budge 30% which adds up to ~$1000. Doesn't the hospital pay this group for their work? Is this how they treat locals?? They're just plain greedy! This Maui Memorial Emergency Medical ************** tarnishes the good staff and the hospital. Horrible! Despicable!!
