This BBB complaint is late because I first tried to get the money owed me for the incomplete work back from the credit card company. They took over 9 months and many phone calls (when they said that they would contact me and did not, so I had to repeatedly call them, only to be delayed again), until they finally told me that it was too late to refund me the money. I contacted this contractor, *************************** of Full Steam Restorations, to give me an estimate to fix my deck. While he was there, he suggested that I also repair my gazebo. I emphasized to him that my priority was the deck because I do not use the gazebo at all. He gave me an estimate to repair both. After I chose him to do the work, he said that he needed 1/3 of his labor costs "to hold my time" 4 months later because he was very busy. So I paid him $2,725.78 on my credit card. I was to pay for the materials directly to the stores. When ****'s start date came around, he said he needed another 1/3 to start the work, but he wanted a check due to credit card expenses. I gave him a check for $2,725.78. After working for 1 day, he asked for a meeting. He said that the gazebo needed really extensive repairs. I told him again that the gazebo was not my priority and asked him why they had started there instead of the deck. After he gave me a very expensive "change order" to include gazebo work and fixing my fence, I told him I could not afford that. He said that they had already ripped up the Trex, so they had to replace it. So I told him to replace the Trex and to do the fence and paid $2,673.67 by credit card. Three weeks later, he needed more money "just to keep his workers coming back". I gave him $1,476.69 check.**** never finished the jobs on the original invoice. I uploaded photos taken well after he stopped coming. He was still asking for more money. I told him I would pay the balance when he finished the work. He claimed that he had already done almost everything on the list, would finish soon.

She asked me to do work on her deck. We looked over the deck and we assessed the damage. She had a very large hot tub that had gone unused for many years inside a gazebo that was on top of the deck. The deck was not built to hold a hot tub, so she paid me to remove the hot tub and structurally rebuild the deck. As I was removing planks, I realized that the structure underneath had termite damage that exceeded my original quote. I did a change order, she agreed to the change order, she paid the deposit for the change order, and when the entire job was done, she realized how much money was owed and didnt want to pay my team or myself for the work. She did a chargeback on her checks and her credit card. I provided every bit of evidence I needed to reverse that chargeback, and that evidence was sufficient for the bank and the credit card companies to reverse the chargeback. The deck looks beautiful, it was done. She was happy until she was asked to pay the final deposit.
