In January of 2018, RevoluSun installed a solar water heater at my home. The system came with a warranty of 5 years on the installation, 10 years on the water heater tank, and ********************************************************************** May of 2024 the solar section of the system stopped working. After several failed attempts to diagnose and correct the problem, RevoluSun representatives informed me that the company would no longer work toward a resolution, that its warranty responsibility extended to the installation period only, and that I would be required to work directly with the manufacturer to effect a repair. At no point during RevoluSun's sales presentation was I informed that the company's warranty responsibility was limited to the installation period; there is no mention in the warranty documents I received that the company's warranty responsibility is limited to the installation period. I have contacted representatives at RevoluSun to request that the warranty be honored and that the company resolve the issue, but have received no response.

    Business Response

    Date: 04/25/2025

    Dear Better Business Bureau,

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to ****************** complaint regarding his solar water heating system, originally installed by RevoluSun in January 2018.

We take all customer concerns seriously and strive to resolve any issues with fairness, transparency, and respect. We appreciate Mr. ******** patience during this process and would like to provide clarification regarding the timeline and the actions we have taken to support him.

    Summary of Events:
In May 2024, Mr. ******* informed us that the solar portion of his water heating system was not performing to his expectations.
Since that time, RevoluSun has engaged with Mr. ******* through multiple phone calls, text messages, coordination of multiple site visits, and email exchanges. Contrary to the assertion that there was no response, we have maintained ongoing communication and have consistently worked to assist him.
As a demonstration of our commitment, we removed his original tank and installed an entirely new system at no cost to him a replacement valued at over $5,000 despite his workmanship warranty having expired in January 2023.
We also contacted the systems manufacturer, *********** who reviewed the case and confirmed that the system is designed to work with supplemental utility power and not exclusively on solar energy. We shared their recommendations and findings with Mr. ******* and provided guidance on next steps.

    Warranty Overview:
RevoluSun provided a 5-year workmanship warranty, which has since expired.
The water heater tank has a 10-year manufacturers warranty.
The solar-related components carry a 25-year manufacturers warranty.
It is standard industry practice that after the workmanship warranty period ends, responsibility for product performance shifts to the manufacturer. RevoluSun assists customers by coordinating warranty claims when manufacturers are honoring product warranties.

    Current Status:
While RevoluSun has gone above and beyond by replacing major components outside of warranty, the current issue relates to product performance not workmanship or installation and is thus outside our direct control. Over an extended period, we have made every effort to explain the situation clearly and assist Mr. ******** including coordinating with the manufacturer, conducting multiple site visits, and installing a replacement system at no charge.

Despite our repeated efforts, Mr. ******* has unfortunately been unwilling to accept our explanation, which is consistent with the warranties outlined at the time of installation and the practices that thousands of our customers have trusted over our 16 years in business. We respect his right to seek other avenues of resolution, but we believe RevoluSun has fulfilled and exceeded its obligations in this case.

    Conclusion:
We believe we have made extensive good-faith efforts to support Mr. ******** including absorbing substantial costs and dedicating significant time and resources beyond our warranty obligations. RevoluSun remains committed to providing excellent customer service and standing by our work with integrity.

    Sincerely,
    **** *******

    Complaint: 23251316

I am rejecting this response because:  Contrary to what RevoluSun has stated, the solar water system was not replaced.  Only the water heater tank was replaced.  The originally installed tank was 80 gallon capacity; I agreed to have a 50 gallon tank installed when RevoluSun informed me that the 80 gallon tank was no longer manufactured.  The newly installed tank is not, in fact, new.  It was manufactured in 2020, and I have no way of knowing if it had been in service prior to being installed at my home. The solar water heater derives power from photovoltaic panels which are connected to a single inverter which is in turn connected to two thermostat-controlled heating elements.  During periods of adequate sun these heating elements maintain the water temperature at 140 degrees.  There is a single thermostat-controlled heating element powered by the utility (HECO) which maintains the water temperature at 120 degrees during cloudy periods.  It is very clearly described in the manufacturer's operating instructions that these temperature settings are recommended, as 120 degrees is the optimal start temperature for the photovoltaic system.  The system is not designed to operate on photovoltaic power only, but there is nothing to suggest that the photovoltaic system would damaged as a result of a prolonged utility outage.  On two occasions, I have had to re-set the thermostats to the factory settings after RevoluSun employees set the utility powered heating element to its highest setting, resulting in the water temperature reaching 160 degrees, and effectively negating the photovoltaic side of the system.  The manufacturer's installation instructions specifically require that the inverter be attached to an isolated ground.  On one occasion, a RevoluSun employee grounded the inverter to my home's plumbing system; my discussion with a manufacturer's representative indicated that this could have possibly damaged the inverter.  Standard industry practice to end warranty coverage with the installation period is not something I am familiar with, and had this been pointed out by RevoluSun during its sales presentation, I would not have contracted them for the solar water heater installation.  Similarly, it seems misleading to not have made note of that standard industry practice in the warranty documents I reviewed prior to signing the contract.  RevoluSun has publicly stated that the company would do whatever it takes to ensure customer satisfaction.  I am not yet satisfied, ****.  Finish the job.

    Sincerely,

    ***** *******

They continue to come to our house to try and sell us solar PV panels. Weve told them numerous times we are not interested and to take us off their sales listing, however it hasnt deterred them from coming to try and sell their product. Not only is it annoying but becoming harassing and needs to stop.

    Aloha,
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns. I want to start by sincerely apologizing for the frustration this has caused you. I want to assure you that RevoluSun does not have a door-knocking policy. Our sales team does not engage in door-to-door sales, and we pride ourselves on the fact that the majority of our business comes from returning customers or referrals.
Unfortunately, weve seen cases in the past where third-party organizations, often from the mainland, claim to represent RevoluSun to leverage our trusted name and reputation. These groups have no connection to us, and we take this type of misrepresentation very seriously. Ive even personally received calls from friends and homeowners saying someone knocked on their door claiming to be from RevoluSun, only to discover that these individuals knew nothing about our company when pressed.
I also recently confirmed with my sales team that no one has been door-knocking, and Im confident this was not a RevoluSun representative. However, if you have additional detailslike security camera footage or other evidenceId be happy to review it to triple-check.
We understand how upsetting this kind of experience can be, and I appreciate you bringing it to our attention. If you have any further questions or concerns, please dont hesitate to reach out to me directly at ************.

Not sure what else can be one if Revolu Sun is saying they do not do door-to-door sales.  I had attached a picture from my outdoor camera of the 2 sales personal that came to my house.

If the business is adamant they don't do this and of sales, then I'm not sure what else I can do.  You may close this complaint.

Our PV system was installed by Revolusun in June of 2015 and we were provided a 10 year inverter warranty and a 25 year solar panel warranty. On 6/24/2024 we called Revolusun about our PV system not working for 2 months. We're at the 9 year mark so we knew the products were under warranty. On 7/9/2024 Revolusun sent out a ********** and we were told there was a failure with the inverter/panel and the parts would be ordered. After more calls and another month, they told us parts were not ordered and on 8/12/2024 sent a second ********** who confirmed the issues. Both Technicians were great. We were reassured that our claims were submitted and nothing more was required from us to get the replacement parts. We told them that other panels are showing signs of failure, not just the one panel that failed. Revolusun said those panels will be replaced as well. We were reassured again that Revolusun has gone through our case number with both Manufacturers and our warranty will be extended. On 12/26/24, Revolusun left a voice message and email confirming that our inverter is still under warranty (which we already know) and tells us that in order to make a claim (which theyve already told us theyve done twice and said we dont need to provide anything further), they want to send a 3rd ********** but this time they are going to charge us $150 because their workmanship warranty expired. We immediately called back, left a message and have not heard from them again. This is unacceptable. As a homeowner it is very disheartening getting the run around by a large company like Revolusun, and they have not provided us with any concrete answers towards a solution. Its been over 6 months and many HECO bills since we made the first call to Revolusun with no resolution and empty promises. Weve called more than 12 times, had 5 conversations, 2 visits from techs, and this is going into our 7th month. We can provide more information if needed. Thank you for your help.

Aloha Mr.& Mrs. ****************** sincerely appreciate your patience and understand your frustration regarding the delays in resolving your systems issues. Please know that we have taken your concerns seriously from the beginning and have been actively working on your behalf to secure the necessary warranty replacements.
The delays you experienced were largely due to ********* unexpected bankruptcy, which significantly disrupted warranty claims across the industry. As a result, obtaining confirmation from ********* company that acquired ********* panel technology and has offered to honor some of their warrantieshas been a complex and evolving process. While we made every effort to navigate these challenges, the situation was beyond our control, and the approval process for warranty claims has taken much longer than anticipated.
Unfortunately, during this time, a miscommunication occurred when one of our representatives informed you of a potential charge for a site visit. This was a mistake, as they were not fully familiar with the complexities of the bankruptcy proceedings and ******* warranty policies. Once this was realized, we quickly corrected the issue and proceeded with service at no cost to you.
We want to assure you that we remained committed to finding a solution and worked diligently behind the scenes to get your system restored. Since your initial request, our team has:
Sent multiple technicians to diagnose and address your system's issues
Navigated SunPowers shifting warranty policies amidst the bankruptcy
Explored alternative warranty claim routes through SMA to replace your inverter
Successfully replaced your inverter and performed a complimentary cleaning
Continued working with Maxeon to determine the best path forward for your panel replacements
As of now, your inverter is fully operational, and we are actively working to confirm whether ****** will honor your panel replacements using the SPR335 panels we have in stock.
We understand that this process has been frustrating, and we appreciate your patience as we continue working toward a final resolution. If you have any further concerns or questions, please dont hesitate to reach out.

RevoluSun installed a ** and battery system on our house in Dec 22. BEFORE installation, RevoluSun sent an inspector to inspect our roof and he said that our roof was good for at least another ***** years. Less than a year and a half after installation, a chunk of wood and roof tiles fall off our roof. We called a roof company and they said we need to replace our entire roof. Our house was built in 1984. I called RevoluSun because the ** system would have to be uninstalled and then reinstalled for the roof replacement. RevoluSun first offered to repair the section of roof free of charge but later said they were going to charge me for the repair. Since RevoluSun INSPECTED our roof prior to installation and obviously missed something, we dont feel that we should be charged for the uninstall and reinstall of the ** system when it was their error for not doing a proper roof inspection. If their inspector had recommended roof repair or a complete roof replacement, we would have done it BEFORE installing the ** system. RevoluSun has stopped responding to my emails and wont return my phone calls.

    Business Response

    Date: 09/12/2024

Dear Mrs. *********************** you for bringing your concerns to our attention, and we sincerely regret any frustration or misunderstanding you may have experienced. At RevoluSun, we take great pride in the thoroughness and integrity of our inspection process, and we always aim to provide clear and accurate information to our customers.

After reviewing your case, we would like to clarify the following:

Prior to the installation of your PV and battery system in December 2022, a detailed roof inspection was conducted by one of our certified inspectors. During this site visit, our inspector made a strong recommendation to reroof due to the age of your home, which was built in 1984, and the overall condition of the roof. We rely on a standard inspection checklist for every roof assessment, precisely to avoid these types of issues in the future.
Our records, including the attached inspection checklist, show that our inspector clearly indicated the need for reroofing at the time of the inspection. This checklist is a critical part of our pre-installation process and serves as a communication tool to inform homeowners about potential issues with their roof that may affect the longevity of both the roof and the installed PV system.
We understand that roof maintenance decisions are ultimately the responsibility of the homeowner, and while we provide our best recommendations based on the inspection findings, we cannot predict or control how a roof may deteriorate over time.
Given the strong recommendation we provided, we disagree with the assertion that the need for a roof replacement was missed during the initial inspection. Our goal is always to ensure our customers are fully informed about the condition of their roof before installation, and we believe our team did their due diligence in this case.

We will also attach the pre-installation inspection checklist for your review, which outlines the details of the roof inspection and our recommendation.

Thank you again for bringing this matter to our attention. We are happy to discuss this further and work toward a resolution that addresses your concerns. Sincerely, **** *******

I am rejecting this response because: When ***** did his inspection, he did mention that there were some cracked tiles and may need repair.  In discussing it with ***, I agreed for RevoluSun to do any necessary roof repairs because the repair costs would be added to our total PV bill and would be a tax advantage. RevoluSun sent a roof inspector who said that our roof was good. I asked him about the cracked tiles and he said that he didnt see any cracked tiles. The inspector also said later that even if there were cracked tiles, there is wood under the tiles and if the wood is good, then the roof is good.  He said that our wood was good and didnt recommend any repairs.  To be honest, I was a bit surprised but I am not a roof expert so I went with his assessment.  Since I TRUSTED *** and had a good experience with everyone from RevoluSun, I went along with ANYTHING that was recommended .. if it was recommended and brought to my attention that the roof be replaced, we would have done it.

    Sincerely,

In August 2024 we noticed that our solar system, installed by Revolusun in 2014, was not sending power to the grid. Within a week of our first call, a technician arrived and determined the inverter has stop working. Revolusun contacted the supplier, SunPower, and it was determined that the inverter was still under warranty, Within a week of that determination, we received a notice via **** that SunPower was in Chapter 11. We have sent repeated messages to Revolusun to ask for alternatives, and get platitudes in reply. My husband and I are both retired and we count on our Net Metering Agreement to keep monthly costs as low as possible. We understand that the bankruptcy of Revolusuns supplier is a serious issue, but they have not reached out to suggest options or alternatives that could get our system back up and sending power to the grid.

On September 5, 2024, I filed a complaint regarding Revolusun Hawaii failing to respond to our concerns about a defective inverter. As of today, September 18, 2024, Revolusun Hawaii has replaced the inverter under warranty. Revolusun requested that the complaint be removed or at least annotated that the dispute is resolved.

    Business Response

    Date: 07/01/2024

    Mr. ****,

As we have communicated directly, both in writing as well as during multiple conference calls and video conferences, our investigation and validation of your system's operation has verified the following:

    -  All components of your system are functioning and capable of operating as designed.

    - As part of our normal installation process, we conducted a 48-hour and 30-day remote system check that validated your system was performing as expected.

    -  Since then, you manually adjusted the "export" setting of the system via your Tesla app, along with manually disconnecting your main ************************* breaker; both artificially limiting the system's ability to produce at full capacity.

    -  As communicated, there will continue to be intermittent small imports of electricity from the grid to correlate the system's operation with the frequency of the grid.  Inhibiting the system's connection to the grid, either by manually adjusting the system's settings and/or by disconnecting the main service breaker artificially limit the system's operation to the immediate load of the house.  These are unavoidable requirements of the system's operation.

    -  Our recommendation has been to revert your system back to 'normal' settings and to place your main ***************** disconnect breaker in the "on" position.

    -  During your consultation with your sales representative, multiple system configurations were presented and features discussed.  You selected your configuration, which happened to be the lowest cost option of the configurations presented.  At no point during the design or installation process were components substituted or change orders generated.  As we have subsequently explained, none of the components we install on any of our systems are inferior or substandard (to the contrary, they are carefully vetted and deemed to be industry leading options).  However, different components have different benefits.  Your system included the most efficient solar panels in the industry paired with Tesla Powerwall 2 batteries and their integrated Tesla inverter.

    -  Our then Director of Technology offered to visit your home to provide you with consumption readings when all appliances are on and to ensure the settings in your app were reverted back to 'normal' settings.  You had to reschedule appointments based on personal travel and circumstances.  At no point did we relay our visit was to investigate any non-functioning components - as you described in your recent e-mail.  The visit was a courtesy call to help you better understand the system's operation and its ability to meet your home's electricity needs.

    -  At this point, we have addressed and explained your concerns to the best of our abilities.  We have also offered to have our lead technician visit your home to conduct the consumption readings exercise.

    -  You continue to have a past due balance of $30,630.70.  This balance has been outstanding since the system was installed on November 14, 2023.

Please let us know if you would like to schedule the technician visit and if you plan on settling the past due balance.

    Thank you

I am rejecting this response because:

                      Revolusun

No offense is intended in my communications, but the information submitted in Revolusuns response to the BBB requires specific and transparent correction of misinformation, clarification of misleading information, and addition of omitted information.
For simplicity, it is provided directly in context of the responses text.

In general, recent Revolusun response represents a reversal in Revolusuns stated intent in May to investigate alternatives to address the system and functionality issues that had been reported to them between November 2023 and May 2024.  Specifically, through system fixes and/or configuration changes, including reverting to the Enphase technology accepted in the initial approved configuration.

This reversal seems to have focused with the departure of their chief technology manager and the companys [in]ability and/or willingness to address the outstanding issues, and  the collective understanding they have now gained regarding the scope and contents of the issues associated with the configuration they recommended and installed.

I appreciate the BBBs patience as it has taken several days to document the rectifications to the Revolusun response, and compile the additional information below.

Information specific to Revolusuns 1 July response to the BBB is contained in the document:

Here is the response to Mr. **** from our President ***** ******:

    "Mr. ****,

If you have any documentation with these requests/pre-requisites, please share as *** was unaware of these requirements in the considerable amount t of time he spent walking you through various options.  Your requirement of off grid full time is something that would have drawn immediate intention as that is not the operational intention of these systems - Tesla explicitly does not support full time off grid operation.
As for panel level monitoring, *** provided you with proposals for options including Enphase with Tesla PW2 batteries along with their, then new, Powerwall Plus with integrated string inverter.  The latter was more cost effective and thats what you chose.  As weve discussed, as professionals doing this for the last ************************************************************** our opinion, particularly in your circumstance.
In any event, its tough for us to back track now.  We installed what was contracted and it is performing as designed/intended.  Going back to an Enphase system would require us to replace the battery as well, as the Powerwall Plus is not easily transitioned to being integrated with micro inverters instead of its integrated string inverter.  I am confirming if its even possible with Tesla and whether it will void its warranty.
We will also need to charge you for the work along with the cost of the micro inverters and the replacement battery, if necessary.
I would also ask you to pay us the balance on the work and equipment we have already provided, before committing more resources to your system.

    Thanks,

We have made a number of attempts to meet with Mr. **** in person to go over his system and he has continued to cancel at every opportunity.  We strongly disagree with his version of events and have counselled him many times on the best way for his system to operate. We have sent him an email giving him an opportunity to pay for the changes he is requesting and to request payment in full

    *****,

Of course, you know I cannot record phone calls.
-1- Why did you wait 8 months to try and imply I did not have any requirements as an excuse to discount the issues.
-2- You gave proof, you state I spent considerable time, actually many hours over days, explaining my requirements to the salesman.  I have asked for a direct statement from the salesman *** **** denying the requirements I have documented multiple times.
-3- Proof is in the Enphase configuration which reflects the requirements.
-4- I provided the same requirements to two other providers.  If you would like a statement from them I can send them copies of all of our correspondence and ask them to verify.
-5- I have been a VP of business management for a global company.  *************** family, friends would think it incredulous to try to imply of not having any requirements.
-6- I asked for a written and direct response from the salesman *** **** to each of the requirements, and other incorrect information he has provided according to your communications.

The fundamental purpose of a solar system is to replace grid usage.
    -  If my requirements were not something Revolusun supports, the salesman should have disclosed that at the very start.
    REVOLUSUN
    -  The Revolusun online calculator reflects 100% displacement of grid power.
    -  By going solar with Revolusun, you get that FULL value of electricity at a much lower cost
TESLA does explicitly support full time solar
    -  solar energy whenever you need it INSTEAD OF relying on the grid
    -  Power your home and lifestyle more sustainably by generating YOUR OWN energy
    -  you can power EVERYTHING from your home sustainably DAY AND NIGHT
    *************************************
    -  power your home around the clock

    Misrepresentation and incorrect:
-The first two proposed configurations were Enphase and the old Tesla, not the Plus.

    Misrepresentation and incorrect:
-YOU have no idea why I chose anything, and your statement is completely false.

    Misrepresentation and incorrect:
-It was not until later that the Tesla Plus product was proposed as a more functionality solution.  As has been documented, this was a completely false proposition by the salesman for undisclosed reasons, and I made the mistake of believing and trusting his information. Then is when I accepted his recommendation and changed to the Tesla Plus configuration.
He did not disclose the reduced functionality, the missing customer requirements, nor any of the other reported issues.

    Misrepresentation and incorrect:
I did not choose because of cost; I chose based on the functionality that would satisfy my requirements.
Repeated attempts by the president of the company to state that I chose the less expensive configuration because it was cheaper, is completely false.  I chose based on information the salesman gave me, which it turns out was incorrect.

    Misrepresentation and incorrect:
The Enphase solution is NOT inferior.  In fact, it is superior than the Tesla products solution in all respects.
This has been detailed previously and is available in the uploaded documents filed with this complaint.

    Misrepresentation and incorrect:
The claim the system is performing as designed/intended is a gross misrepresentation.
-The system constantly uses grid power in spite of Tesla documentation and system settings.
-The system (without disclosure) does not provide any panel data which is a mandatory user requirement.
-There are over 12 other system issues reported.
And Revolusun has never completed and reported the validation that was supposed to take place after installation to verify functionality of the system.  They have not shown that the system is meeting any of the specifications of the equipment.
And Revolusun has not provided the required documentation to confirm the correct equipment is installed, including product models and serial numbers.  For example, they have not even shown that the correct panels are installed.

Full details are in PDF documents uploaded to this complaint file.

I bought a solar PV system for my home in Nov 2023. They were recommended by my friend ***************************. I was under the impression that since he referred me, he would receive the referral fee from RevoluSun. I've emailed RevoluSun on 3 occasions and in every instance, ******** said she would check with accounting. But ***** received no check and I got no response.

This was a mistake made by the salesperson putting in the wrong name for the referral. It is being handled by the salesperson and the customer is withdrawing their complaint

I bought a roof PV solar system last year from Revolusun (********) and went online July 2022 after paying 60K in full. My site ID is ******* and had no problems until the big winter rain storms came January-March 2023 causing roof leaks under 4 bedrooms. One of the leaks is dripping water over the solar batteries under the roof ***** during a heavy rain. I called Revolusun ************** sent a pic, and they sent a roofer around 10 Feb to make an assessment on the first initial bedroom. The roofer said Revolusun has to remove the panels before he can repair/reseal the roof. So far, I did not get a tentative solar panel removal date in order to facilitate roof repair leaks after repeated emails and calls to Revolusun. More winter heavy rains came this March 2023 causing additional roof leaks, for a total of 5 roof leaks, so far. Took pics of all the bedroom leaks and over the solar batteries and sent them to ************** Again, no response from ************* after repeated emails requesting another roof leak assessment and repairs as of 8 Mar. Requesting BBB's help in resolving this repair issue with Revolusun. Thanks.

    Aloha,

Our crews repaired/addressed the areas that the leak potentially came from. We are working with the Homeowner to schedule the last visit to reinstall the modules on his roof. Due to recent heavy rains our, schedule has been pushed back, but we are moving Mr. ******* up the list of to expedite the reinstallation of his modules.
