I met with ****, the manager of Upcountry ******** Market the week of November 7th to discuss coming on as a vendor for the Saturday Market. I felt "vetted" by him and highly encouraged to get my stuff together and produce a product because there were over **** people who attended and it would be even more so for the holidays. We concluded our meeting with a verbal agreement that I was to start at the ******** Market on December 17th and would be participating every other Saturday. My friend and neighbor witnessed this conversation. I called **** again on November 15th to ask some questions in preparation. He was very rude and told me that I was no longer "in" and that I was maybe going to be available to get a spot at the Market in January. He also said that I would be on a waitlist and that he couldn't guarantee me a spot. In closing out the conversation, I ultimately said this wasn't a valuable use of my time as I am making food. I can't prep and make food to be put on a waitlist. He was unsympathetic, nor offered any explanation for his lack of recourse.I purchased approximately $2000 worth of supplies to prepare for the market. Such things as the tables, awning covers, signage, bags, POS, labels, ingredients and not to mention countless hours in the creation and building of my products, which ended up totaling over a $5000 loss. This particular business practice, by **** and Upcountry ******** Market, has cost me and others much hardship. The county should be aware. After discussing this with some of my colleagues who have booths, I have come to understand his reputation is widely known for doing this to people over the course of many years. This kind of irresponsible business management is having an effect on a population of people who are already struggling financially. People work very hard to produce a booth for a ******** Market. To be promised a vending spot and then have it so unprofessionally revoked warranted me to report this business. Thank you.
