We booked a cabin rental from Iowa Cabin Rentals on November 1, 2021, paying a $600 deposit, for August ****, 2022. We had reviewed the pictures from the website, which showed a pristine cabin with all the amenities. When we arrived, we noted the cabin was very hot and that the stove was on clean mode. The handle on the stove was partially melted. I texted the given contact numbers and was told that the previous occupants had left late and the cleaning crew had just left and had put the stove in cleaning mode as the stove/oven was a mess inside. Ask we inspected the cabin, we noted ants all over in the pantry and kitchen. The kitchen counters had coffee spills present as well as crumbs and dirt/grease/grime. The carpets had obviously not been vacuumed as the floors were covered with debris such as, dried pieces of bread, ***** pin, paper, dirt, etc. The carpets were stained all over. We further inspected the cabin and noted black mold on the wall/boards/floorboards in the basement shower and a huge area of black mold on the wall in the furnace room. The furnace filters that were on the floor were full of dust/debris and there was not even a furnace filter in the furnace. The pool water was yellow and there was a dead bat in the pool water. We immediately texted the contact numbers and informed them of our findings. One of the contacts said the above, that the tenants had just left and she could maybe send out someone to re-clean. The other contact said the cabin had been cleaned 2 days prior- so obvious lying between the two. We said that the re-clean didn't address the black mold issue and what were they going to do about that. We asked them to call us and they did not. After 5+ hours of waiting for a call/response, we made the decision to leave the property as we had a 3 month old and an 8,6,4 yo and did not want to put their health in danger. We texted (after trying to call) and told them we were leaving the property-and asked for a full refund.W
