When my father passed away I inherited his insurance policy in 2021. In 2022 I left the policy pretty similar to what it had been. In 2023 I made numerous changes to the policy. I contacted **** at MHR in January of 2023 to get a new policy, he did not get back to me until March with all of the changes made, and I paid the new bill as of March. When I received my policy for 2024 I did not get the bill until March 16. The bill was due on March 17. I called on March 18 to ask why my policy had gone up over 100%. **** never got back to me. I contacted another agent and sent my declarations over to him. The new agent went over all of my policies with me and none of the changes that I had requested for 2023 had been made. I was heavily insured for things that I did not own. I have received a bill from January - March of 2024 even though I cancelled the policy as soon as I received the renewal. I do not feel as though I should have to pay for a policy for things I do not own. I do not understand how an agent can write a policy for things a customer does not own. I contacted MHR about this issue on April 23rd and was told that my agent would get back to me the next day. No one will get back to me when I call. I wouldn't owe this money if any of the agents at MHR would respond to me. Dickinson County Mutual states the bill due to them for two months of insurance for things I do not own is $741.19. For reference - my new policy with a new agent only insuring things I own is $1542 for the entire year.

      Business response

      05/16/2024

      ****.

I see you sent a second notice of this complaint. For your information, we did not receive the notice dated 05/03/2024 until 05/14/2024. This made us 1 day late the day we received the notice. This is just for the record.

I have attached the document that she refers to in her complaint. If you look at the insurance company declaration pages you will see the changes were made on the farm equipment and name changed when she took ownership of the buildings.

We did advise her to let us know when the remaining items were sold. We were never notified that any of these items were sold.

I also attached a chain of emails. These show timely responses.

With this hard insurance market all insurance companies are re-underwriting and inspecting all homes and properties. This has created a delay in the timeliness in getting renewals processed. This is beyond our control.

With the delay in processing and tardiness of the billing notice, MHR did advise ****** MHR would pay this $741.19 and the past due billing owed to MHR for premium advances to keep her policies in force during name change transition is being written off, $700.55.

She is asking for a refund or exchange because of thing she had sold and did not advise us, i would think the $1,441.74 paid for her and cleared that balance off our book is more than fair.

if you have any additional questions, let me know.

Your letter advised this info may be made public. I order for us to prove this would her documents I did not white out the names or addresses on these documents. Please remember Insurance is a confidential business and these documents Must be kept confidential.
