This summer, I was interning at a company in Muscatine, ****. They put me in contact with a landlord named ****, who works for The Villas at Muscatine. I was there from May 16 to June 1 of 2023, and the first day I moved in, I discovered a massive ***** infestation in the unit I was put in. I immediately reached out to **** and my HR department, but they tried to tell me it was just water bugs and because they just sprayed, you would see some. I lived in that disgusting apartment for 3 more weeks, all while complaining of roaches, and a foul odor of Raid-like smell. Eventually, it got to the point where my company contacted **** about getting me out of my lease. **** filmed and did a walk-through of my unit and determined that there was a ***** infestation and that I could get out of my housing contract. **** then spoke to me and the HR team I was working with and said I could get out of my lease with no further payments with the condition that he kept my security deposit due to him immediately putting the unit back online for someone else. I moved out on June 1st (I had to pay $940.00 plus the security deposit for living there May 16 - June 1st prior, keep in mind) and never looked back. This December, I got a collections notice in the mail stating that I owe The Villas at Muscatine $940.00 in my name.I have video proof of me moving out, text messages between us, and pictures of roaches I witnessed several times a day on a daily basis. Additionally, my HR team (from ******************************) can provide details of the matter. We have tried countless times to contact **** with no success. He refuses to talk with HR; if they call him from a different number, he will immediately hang up. He has also refused to provide his corporate information to us, so we can't get in contact with anyone else but him. I am requesting help in this matter because I do not owe $940.00. He is attempting to scam me, has ruined my credit, and probably has done the same to others.
