ATTN: ***** and surrounding area home owners. Let's tell a story about why hiring Reyes and Sons to lead our large construction project was the worst decision we could have made and it almost cost us everything.
Last Saturday marked 7 months since we first paid 1/3 of the total cost of the project. As of Saturday we had paid 92% of the total cost of the project with roughly 75% of the work complete. It had been two weeks since we had seen a worker and our property had become a dumping ground for ladders, loose nails, trash, etc., but I digress.
The last straw came on that 7 month anniversary of writing our first check. I was outside mowing and stumbled upon a huge oversight that made me nauseous His crew had cut off our furnace flue intake/exhaust and sided right over the top of the openings. For those that don't know, this is where carbon monoxide is supposed to leave your house. Instead, if we would have turned on our furnace, carbon monoxide would have filled our house!!!!
An immediate phone call to Paco was ignored just like dozens and dozens of phone calls and text in the previous 7 months. I then text him, with a picture, exactly what the oversight was and that I expected him to come fix it immediately. I did see Paco drive by looking at my house twice in the following hour without a hint of stopping.
Now, comes Monday morning. No one shows up to fix the issue first thing so I call and was ignored. (You know how you can tell when someone hangs up on you). I text asking when someone was coming over. No response in two hours. Being fed up with the constant no shows, lies, and lack of concern for my families safety; I text him to please come get his stuff off my property.
Here are the parts that continue to blow my mind. He responded within 3 minutes saying he would be needing a check since the garage portion was complete. No garage door openers, electrical not fully complete, siding not fully complete, zero gutters or down spouts, zero weather stripping on the garage doors, and no caulking on the siding; was apparently good enough for Paco to consider that portion of the project complete.
He then sent me a breakdown of what he thought I still owed, which included money I had already paid him. He was expecting $5,400 more than the entire cost of the project, with roughly 75% of the work complete. He then threatens to "pull off siding when I get there." I then sent him the breakdown of everything I had paid. He questioned one of the checks so I sent him the picture with his signature on it. At that point, his response was "I would call this a wash on both ends." I told him I completely disagree and that when he comes to pick up his stuff, we can compare numbers.
Let's move to Tuesday when he finally arrives to get his stuff, without any numbers to compare with mine. He brought a couple of his crew members to assist. I asked him if he has had any discussion with his guys about the health hazard they caused. His response, "I'm fired so what does it matter?" I reminded him he was a family man and could use this as a learning experience to his crew at the very least. Zero response to any of that. Completely ignoring my concern for any of his future/current customers.
As to the work that has been done. I sheeted the inside of my garage myself and had to fight a good number of mismeasurements and unevenness. The roofing is not perfect. I had to request that he fix the end shingles as they were not cut correctly. That did get fixed. One of the valleys looks terrible and is in a very viewable spot. I asked what the plan was with that and he didn't have an answer. So the eye sore sits unfixed. The 30% of the siding that has been completed are full of scrapes, popped nails, and bad cuts. The house wrap is thrown on like a 500 piece jog-saw puzzle that's missing 421 pieces. The best cleaning that happened was on the day he took all of his equipment.
100% of the people that have asked me about my house project in the past 7 months had bad things to say about Paco as a contractor. Including, other people that have had to fire him. I've heard plenty of horror stories from other contractors along the way as well. I tried my best to defend him but there is no defense for how badly we have been treated. Considering, checks were made available within 24 hours of him asking, including a text asking for money at 3:30 AM one morning.
In closing, I whole heartedly do not recommend Reyes and Sons Construction to anyone that wants a pleasant experience by a caring contractor.
