We bought our current house in March 2021 and before we purchased the house the previous owner hired this contracto to do work on the house from the Derecho storm. The contract *********************** requested $6,000 to purcahse product for the repairs and the previous owner released those funds in November 2020. Products were not ordered by RGJ Construction (***********************) because the previous owner put the house on the market. My husband and I put in an offer on the house and closed in March 2021. Shortly after we closed we met with *********************** to discuss roofing, siding and gutter work that needed to be done. We were going to go with a different contractor, however *************************** informed us that we would not be reimbursed the $6,000 that the previous ower paid out from insurance money. Our hands were tied as we needed that $6,000 of insurance money that was already released for the work on the hosue. We continued to move forward with ***** (RJG Construction) and were informed we needed to release $6,000 more to move forward with him ordering the remaining product. We had the escrow company release those funds in April 2021 and the product got ordered, however ***** never went to pick up the product for our house so the product was sold to someone else. ***** continued to push us off for months and follow up calls were made to him with him using the * word to my husband. We contacted and attorney who sent a demand letter to ***** back in Oct 2021 and ***** never met the October 25, 2021 deadline to return the money. He is not responding to attorney calls, messages or messages from us or the previous owner.How do contractors get away with steeling insurance money wiht no repercussions? I would like a complaint filed against this company and *********************** and would like my money returned.
