Began orthodontic treatment costing $3000. Did not receive completed ortho treatment due to errors made by staff and providers. After meeting with owner of the office agreed to change treatment plan. However, when having a regular check up it was discovered that 6 cavities, 2 teeth with chipped spots, and worn areas on external teeth was now needing repaired that Modern Dental failed to treat or discover. I am seeking a refund of the money I personally had to pay out for the treatment i did not get to complete. Dental treatment was paid in advance and I did not receive what I paid. My complaint is pending filing a claim with the board for HIPPA violations and malpractice.Business response

When patients arrive at our office for orthodontic treatment, they are instructed to have regular dental
cleanings and exams (including radiographs) to aid with the prevention of cavities. We encourage
patients to be seen in our office for regular hygiene visits, so we can closely monitor their oral health
with cleanings and x-rays. If a patient chooses to go to a different office for their hygiene, we hope the
office does the same thing. If proper hygiene is not maintained at home, there is a higher probability of
decay (the wires/brackets hold additional bacteria, plaque, and debris). The goal of orthodontic
treatment is to align the teeth and finish in a ******* occlusion. If patients are not seen in our office for
regular check-**** we expect (and reinforce) that they are being completed elsewhere. While in
orthodontic treatment, we are only able to see the visible surfaces of the teeth. If cavities are
developing interproximally between the teeth, they are detected with bitewing radiographs, which are
taken at hygiene appointments, not periodic orthodontic appointments. Without regular hygiene
exams/x-rays, it is impossible to diagnose unseen decay. Braces do not cause decay. Lack of proper
hygiene does. At home hygiene is more difficult with braces, as it takes more time to thoroughly clean
all teeth and the appliance. We provide all orthodontic patients with an electric toothbrush to aid in the
process.Small areas of wear on teeth are not uncommon as they shift in the mouth through orthodontic
treatment. As teeth are transitioning from their initial location to their final location, there will be times
of uneven pressure (the bite will feel off). This can lead to some teeth showing additional wear. When patients ask to have t heir braces removed prior to treatment fully completed, we ********** is not
an uncommon request when special occasions are right around the corner. We are always happy to
complete the treatment (if needed), after the important event at no additional charge.Thank you,
