On Friday 9/2 around 9am, I stopped to get gas and pay at the pump of Warpath ********** station in ******* *****. The machine said my card was denied. I knew I had a large enough balance to cover the charge so I tried again hoping that it would go through. It denied my card a second time. I went over to the ****************** where I bank and asked them to check to see if everything was ok with my card. They said that yes everything was ok. On Monday 9-5 in the afternoon about 3pm, I noticed two $150 transactions pending on my card. I called the gas station and was told to call back today. I went to the gas station today about 10:45 or so and asked about the transactions. They informed me that their gas vendor had put two pre-approvals on my account of $150 each and that they could not remove the pre-approvals on my account. They informed me that only conaco could remove them. The bank also said they could not remove them either. My issue is that ****** has put a hold on $300 of my money even though I never made a purchase at that gas station because they denied my card twice. It has been five days and I can't get anyone to remove the pre-approval holds off my card. This is a real issue that needs to be addressed. How is this holding money from accounts without permission legal. I would like my money returned to me plus interest for the five days they held my money without my permission. I would also like to see if they can be restricted from placing such holds on money or have some large penalty put on them when they violate peoples accounts like this. $300 is a lot of money for me. I cannot afford to have them holding it especially when I never even made a purchase. If you could please look into this. The bank teller said this is becoming a common practice among gas stations due to people stealing gas but I don't see how penalizing the card users with a pre-approval amount three times as much as their purchase is going to be could help reduce theft. Please help
