Alert

On January 25, 2021, Better Business Bureau was alerted to a business operating as Express Pets Movers. A consumer reported purchasing a puppy online from a business claiming to be a certified dog breeder. The alleged breeder claimed to be located in Idaho operating under the name Cute Cocker Spaniels. As part of the transaction, the breeder insisted the consumer ship the puppy using Express Pets Movers. The consumer paid $350 for a container, $500 for insurance, and $450 for a permit. When the puppy did not arrive as promised, the consumer attempted to contact the shipping company only to discover the phone number was no longer in service. In the end, the consumer suffered a significant financial loss.

Research by Better Business Bureau revealed the website for Express Pets Mover can be found at expresspetsmover.com with an advertised address of 1051 O’reilly Road Princeton, Idaho 83857, telephone 208-306-4714. The Idaho Secretary of State reports that Cute Cocker Spaniels and Express Pets Mover are not licensed businesses in the state of Idaho.

Better Business Bureau would like to remind consumers to be cautious when buying a pet online. Before sending money to a pet seller, consumers should ask for proof and documentation regarding business licensing information, veterinarian information such as shots, veterinarian licensing information, and the contact information for the veterinarian. Consumers should contact the veterinarian to learn about the health of the pet to be purchased, ask questions about the history of the breeder, use online resources to verify government licensing, the business location, and contact information. Consumers should make their own shipping arrangements to avoid being scammed by fraudulent shipping companies that are often recommended by the seller.

Complaints can be filed with Better Business Bureau at www.bbb.org, as well as with the Federal Trade Commission Consumer Protection at  ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
