I scheduled a hearing test and collected all of the information when I scheduled the appointment. I was told $58 out of pocket for my visit. When it was time to pay they told me that I owed $440 because I had received a hearing aid consultation. I did not ask for that consultation nor was informed of any additional charges at that time. I paid half of the $440 but should’ve only have been responsible for the $58 I was told about. They should’ve told me about any additional costs/fees in the beginning and I would’ve never went to the appointment. I have since scheduled an appointment with a different provider and they have told me that there will be no fee for the hearing test or the consultation because of my insurance. Both providers are not n network. I should be refunded everything but the initial $58

This patient contacted our office on 2/16/24 by phone to schedule an appointment for a hearing exam and discussion on hearing aid options if he was a candidate.  My staff informed him in good faith that the range for the exam cost would be $53-$93 and, if it was found that he did have hearing loss, the additional hearing aid consultation was $330.  The appointment was scheduled for 2/26 at 9:30 am.

In addition to the call, we also received an email request generated from our website that stated "I'd like to get in as soon as possible."  A second staff member called him based on this request and he reported that he had "blown out both eardrums in his 20s" and he hadn't been tested since then.  As the staff member started to take his information our system alerted the staff member that a profile had already been created for this patient.  The staff member confirmed his information to make sure it was the same person and told him that it looked like he already had an appointment scheduled on 2/26.  Patient stated to this staff member "Oh, I must have been confused."  The staff member confirmed that we had already gotten all of the information we needed for the appointment and the call was ended.

On the day of the appointment, the patient did in fact have hearing loss.  The additional diagnostic tests and procedures required to perform a hearing aid consultation in the State of Illinois was completed.  The act can be found here in this link.  Specifically, section 4.6:  ********************************************************************************************************************

The patient was provided with a prescriptive recommendation and written quote for the solution. This information is attached, as a waiver was signed.  The patient is welcome to take this information to another provider, as required by the act referenced.  He was quoted for possible charges as required within the limits of the good faith estimate, as required, and charged for services rendered.

I am rejecting this response because:
I was told $58 for a hearing test. I was told nothing of an additional cost for a hearing aid consultation or did I request one. After the hearing test was completed I was taken to another room and was told about hearing aids. I did not request this consultation, so I was under the impression that it was just part of the visit. Again I DID NOT REQUEST A HEARING AID CONSULTATION!!!!
