This is in response to your BBB inquiry.  Afni appreciates the opportunity to respond to the consumer’s concerns.  On October 29, 2020, ****** forwarded the subject account, ****** account #:  *********, Afni, Inc. account #:  ************, with Afni for collections on the balance of $1,704.26.
The account is for services until ****** considered the account delinquent on December 22, 2018.  The billing address associated with the account is **** **** ******* ***** *********** ** ****** which is the same address the consumer listed on this complaint.  Afni mailed the initial notice of the account on November 1, 2020.  On December 20, 2020, Afni furnished the credit reporting agencies with notice of the account.
On October 12, 2021, Afni received this complaint.  In response, Afni ceased communication and initiated an investigation.   Afni has attached copies of the account billing statements to this response; these are provided as validation of the account.  To address the consumer’s concerns, the subject account has not been purchased by Afni.  Afni received the account from ****** and acts as an agent on behalf of ******.  In regard to the consumer's concerns about the age of the account, the statute of limitations applies to the legal remedy taken in a court of law.  Afni does not file suit on collection accounts.  Afni will send a request to the credit reporting agencies to remove the account from the consumer’s credit report.  Please be aware that it can take the credit reporting agencies anywhere from 0 to 60 days to update consumer credit reports.  Afni has no control over how quickly the credit reporting agencies update consumer credit reports.  However, this does not mean that the account is not due and owing, simply that Afni will no longer furnish the account to the credit reporting agencies.  Afni trusts this response has addressed the consumer’s concerns, but if questions remain, or if they would like to discuss the account, they may contact a Regulatory Specialist at ***** *********

We have contacted AFNI 3 times concerning a collections account that does not belong to myself! I have been sick with Covid and authorized my girlfriend to help get this resolved. We spoke representatives with AFNI and *********** on September 23, 24 and now have currently on hold to speak with someone today Oct 8th for 60 minutes and counting. After I spoke with ******** from AFNI on September 24th she said that they would send a detailed bill from *********** for what this $659.65 was from as my account was paid in full when I switched to ***! The only documents we have received are discounted offers to half of the amount and another to pay the full amount of a bill I do not owe. In total we have spent 6 hours between *********** and AFNI. AFNI stated *********** does not have the billing information anymore they do. Yet here we are no details about a account that was paid in full and do not owe. I would like the details of this account that is not mine or I wanted it removed.

This is in response to your BBB inquiry.  Afni appreciates the opportunity to respond to the consumer’s concerns.  On August 30, 2021, *********** forwarded the subject account, *********** account #:  6238721074141, Afni, Inc. account #:  ********* ***, with Afni for collections on the balance of $659.65.
The account is for services until *********** considered the account delinquent.    Afni mailed the initial notice of the account on September 2, 2021.  Afni has not and will not furnish the subject account to the credit reporting agencies. On September 23, 2021, the consumer spoke with an Afni representative and provided permission to speak with his girlfriend. The Afni representative placed a hold on the account as the consumer was impacted by Covid-19.   On September 24, 2021, the consumer girlfriend called back in and spoke with another Afni representative, who also had a *********** representative on the phone.  The Afni representative asked the *********** representative to confirm the account which was a different number then was placed with Afni.
On October 12, 2021, Afni received this complaint.  In response, Afni ceased communication and initiated an investigation.  To address the consumer’s concern, Afni has not and will not furnish the subject account to the credit reporting agencies. The account was updated as potential identity theft as Mr. ***** denied knowledge of any service with *********** for this account.  Placing a fraud alert with the credit reporting agencies is a suggestion and not required to investigate a fraud claim. In order to properly investigate the account Mr. ***** needs to send Afni a copy of a police report and proof of residency during the time the service was being provided by CenturyLink.  This information should be sent to Afni at: Afni, Inc., Attn: ******** ******** **** *** ***** ************ ** ***********  As the consumer has requested, Afni will no longer contact them about this account.  Afni trusts this response has addressed the consumer’s concerns, but if questions remain, or if they would like to discuss the account, they may contact a Regulatory Specialist at (**** *********

I am rejecting this response because:

I paid in full all costs, expenses and returned all the equipment ( i have the receipt) that dealt with ******* ****. I have never been notified by any means, that there was some sort of outstanding balance. I have had many, many instances where ******* **** could not keep track of their own account with me. I have dealt with ******* **** approx. 30+ times about their service, and accounting problems.

When I left ******* **** I made absolutely sure there was no outstanding balance with them. Also ******* **** shows no balance in any form in my name.

      Regards,

      *****

An entry in my ******** credit report showed up last month indicating a delinquent balance owed to an account related to ***. I have not had an *** account nor has any of my accounts been delinquent for more than 15 yrs. This is a false account. There is no history listed. I have not had any account with *** for more than 20yrs and always paid in full. I understand AFNI typically will buy a debt from another firm, whether it is valid or not. I want my credit rating back and this account to be deleted and not sold to another collection firm.

I checked my credit report and noticed I had a collection from Afni that was opened on 8/1/21 for $64 with account number starting in 108194 that I do not recall and am not liable for. I never entered into a signed agreement or completed an original contract with them. This is fraudulent and a violation of my rights. This inaccurate collection is not mine. If you believe this account is mine, prove the validity. I would like all collection activity to cease immediately and for this inaccurate and fraudulent collection to be removed from my credit report or I will file for litigation and report you to the CFPB and FTC.

I received a collection letter dated for September 23, 2021 on which it states that I owe **** a balance due of $254.64 for unknown services. I am not sure what they are trying to collect as the letter does not state any information. At this point I am not comfortable giving out any information regarding myself to a company I don't know if its legit.
