Date of incident (phone conversation) Thursday, June 6, 2024. I’m a 73 yr old lady, on Section 8 program, for almost 40 years, with a 2 bedroom certificate. I reside in an upper apartment & have leg/knee problems, besides many other health problems. I’ve desperately been searching for a lower apartment, for about 2 years. I just found one,& it’s perfect for me. Section 8 said I had to fill out forms & give a 30 day notice, which I did. In the meantime, the landlord was holding the apartment. Section 8 called me - said, I can’t afford it, because they’re taking my 2 bedroom voucher & giving me a one bed, which is very unfair, since no notice & all these years, didn’t change it. I’m so upset, it’s made me sick- I feel they should give a person a years notice before doing something that mean. I just want to keep my 2 bedroom voucher, please, PLEASE HELP ME. Could you talk to section 8 & tell them how unfair it is, to do that? I’ve been on phone all day, trying to get help. Most places - voicemail, no answer, or do it online, but I need help a little quicker than that - before he rents it to someone else. IM begging you..thank you very much. ***** ******* ******** ***** ***** ********Business response

This voucher holder has had a 1 bedroom voucher for over 15 years. Since that time, the voucher holder has occupied a two-bedroom unit. The Gross Rent for the 2-bedroom fell under the limits with a 1-bedroom voucher.
Recently, the voucher holder was seeking another unit. Initially, the Gross Rent for the 2-bedroom unit which the voucher holder found was above her limit with a 1-bedroom voucher.
It was explained to the voucher holder that, though she had been residing in a 2-bedroom unit, she always had a 1-bedroom voucher.
Eventually, the prospective landlord agreed to lower the Rent Requested to accommodate the limit with the 1-bedroom voucher.
Staff informed the voucher holder of this development last week and it will be inspected shortly.Customer response

Why I should keep the 2 bedroom certificate:
Section 8 should show proof of when it changed to a 1 bedroom.
Section 8 should show proof of notifying me of the change.
my part of the rent is higher now, with the 1 bedroom, even though the rent is higher AND, I pay more utilities.
Section 8 should give me a year’s notice, since the leases run year to year.
on phone conversation, recently, about the apartment, ******** ******** told me she’s taking my 2 bedroom & switching to a 1 bedroom.
‘However, in an email to BBB, she states that I’ve had a 1 bedroom voucher for 15 years. It can’t be both…thank you, ** ***** *******
