Every two days I go to this establishment to purchase items and every two days the prices change (i.e. Pepsi goes from $1.29 to $1.79) as well as their food items increase by a dollar (dozen of eggs went from $2.99 to $5.99). Each item is taxed separately and then added a tax is added for the entire purchase. With each visit, after receiving my receipt I ask why am I being taxed for food items when ******** has a suspended food tax that went from June 2022 through June 2023 (no other store taxes food items in the community, i.e. ****'s Market). I was informed by the cashier today (04/19/2023 @ 10:45 a.m. that the tax is for the transportation of the goods to their store. I was not aware that the consumer is required to pay for this.Business response

Appreciate customer:
We have received your complaint through BBB regardin the prices and taxing of items.
We have different ounces bottles of pepsi and the price differ depending on ounces.
We all know egg prices went to the roof last months but they are slowly coming back to more decent price, **** must be a miss understanding , we always try to keep eggs prices at a reasonable price possible.
Regarding the taxing on food items, our accountant explained ** there's a break down on taxes, the state tax of **** % which was suspended until June 2023 and a RTA tax **** ( the regional transportation authority and metro-East mass transit disctrict) which is not suspended and soft drinks tax is not suspended under *** 102-0700.
You mentioned that each item is taxed separately and there is a tax added after all items are added , soft drink have different taxes then groceries or non food items and we have a surcharge for using a credit card wich is not prohibited, a sign letting our customers know about it is visible rigth by the front desk.
We never charge taxes when using a link card.
We can gladly talk about what food qualify for the state tax suspension and what items do not , we can even invite our accountant to the conversation .
