I had a lease to rent out an apartment with Fairlawn Real Estate - *** ***** from 8/18/2023 to 8/7/2024 during my last year of school attending the ********** ** ******** ** ****************. My two roommates and I left a security deposit with them totaling $1,600.00. Instead of receiving the full amount upon our move-out date, we only received $1,309.00 meaning they took $291 in charges. Nowhere in the lease does it say we would be charged these fees. We were charged $50 for Cleaning Oven/Stove Per Scheduled Charges, $35 for Touch up Painting (x2) Per Scheduled Charges, $16 for Blind Slat Replacement Per Scheduled Charges, and $190 for Carpet Cleaning Per Scheduled Charges. My roommates and I did a very deep cleaning of the apartment unit before turning in our keys. We know for certain that the oven/stove and carpet were cleaned thoroughly before moving out. Also, when we moved into the apartment, there were spots on the walls where paint was missing, the blinds of the living room and a bedroom were broken, and the entire apartment was dirty. I consider carpet cleaning and touch-up painting procedures that every landlord must do before handing over a unit to the next tenants. My roommates and I refuse to pay for what is a procedural cleaning that must be done regardless of anything. I would expect any leasing company especially one the size of Fairlawn Real Estate - *** ***** to understand this is a universal procedure that tenants should not be financially responsible for. Any damage done to the walls or the blinds was done by previous tenants and not us. We had to do a deep cleaning of the apartment when we moved in in August of 2023 which proves that this company did not clean before we moved in. We want a refund of the full amount of our security deposit. Below, I have attached the document the leasing company provided detailing all the charges, a copy of my lease, and a copy of the email I sent them explaining I disagreed with the charges which was ignored.
