The animal hospital is my cat's vet. My cat has a lifelong urinary condition requiring Rx food which must be special ordered via Chewy.com. The animal hospital diagnosed my cat and provided an open-ended prescription authorization to enable ordering of his food on monthly basis. Without warning, the animal hospital denied his Rx this week. I was informed not by the animal hospital, which has not contacted me at all, but days later via a phone call from Chewy.com, telling me the animal hospital requires a new check up for my cat. Now my chronic cat has three days of Rx food left--which the animal hospital wouldn't know since I haven't heard a word directly from them, and according to their website, they don't have appointments for weeks in advance. In order to ensure my cat doesn't fall ill and potentially die, I want Uptown Animal Hospital to contact me, immediately authorize the Rx food prescription to Chewy, schedule an appointment, and continue to authorize food until the appointment date arrives. Which is what they should have done in the first place instead of risking my animal's health and letting me learn about the issue from our online pet supply vendor.

I have been taking my 17 1/2-year-old Maltese to Uptown since he was a small pup. Recently, I had to take him in for diagnosis/treatment for an infection. I was shocked when I received the bill, which was just under $1000. When I arrived home, I decided to check the medication cost: Naturally, I understand that medications from veterinary practices are going to be more expensive, but, in this case, the differences were jaw-dropping. These were not small differences. Specifically (what I was charged vs. THEIR online pharmacy cost): Presdnisoline: .27 each (I was charged $46.20 for 3 vs. .81)Apoquel: $2.95 each (I was charged $140 for 30 vs. $88.50)Cefpodoxime: $1.39 each (I was charged $24 for 2 vs. $2.78)Opptimmune: $63.99 (I was charged $90.94)When I pointed this out in an email, ***************************** (the Practice Manager) informed me that I had to take into consideration "other factors." When I asked what other factors were, he told me that my concerns had been addressed to the best of his ability and that maybe Uptown was no longer a good fit for us. I called Uptown to get the number of their corporate office to express my concerns and they connected me to *****. I asked ***** for the corporate number and he informed me that he didn't have it and that I could look it up. When I again addressed the price discrepancy, he told me that I was welcome to come up and spend some time with him if I wanted to "learn about business." I was outraged! He then proceeded to tell me that ****** and I were banned from Uptown and that we could find another provider. I did my research and found that Uptown is now owned by ***************************. I spoke with ******, the regional manager. Ultimately, in an email response, she said that in small vet hospitals, the "holding costs of inventory were more expensive." She also said that since we had been coming to Uptown for so long, "I am surprised that you have not noticed our pricing structure until now." Profit OVER Pets.
