The Sliding Door Company (TSDC) attempted to install a door in my office. They had to abort the installation when they recklessly placed a metal bar over an emergency fire sprinkler blocking it from it's ability to function. That same day, our building engineer instructed them to dismantle their work. They left holes and other damage in my existing glass/metal wall. TSDC's own technician admitted to their mistake and promised to repair the damage. However, the company then ignored my pleas for help and then showed up at my office, unannounced, attempting to dump their custom door in the middle of my waiting room and leave it there. Fortunately they left with their door. When they didn't respond to my calls for help, I had my credit card reverse the payment. After that, they refused to speak with me unless I returned the charge. After several calls they agreed to present me with their solutions. None of their solutions could reach my original needs without major additional costs. They claim that they are not responsible for breaking ANY building code violations. They state that their pre inspection of the site was only for their benefit and not to let me know of any potential problems. I told them that I understood how their contract could protect them from indirect potential code violations, but not when they directly cover a safety mechanism breaking the law and endangering my employees and patients. I'm not a contractor nor an expert in building walls and doors. I had no comprehension of how their structure would directly endanger my office. I left my trust in TSDC, who should understand, basic, responsible construction. I realize that they cannot know every building code and that they must protect themselves from the unknown with their contract. But that doesn't allow them to be reckless and unprofessional. TSDC should not charge me for their door and should return to my office to repair the damage they caused.
