My agent and I contacted a listing agent for a property listed for rent at *************************** and my agent did a showing. After the showing I still had a few others to see before I made a decision. I decided to move forward with the rent listed by ***************************. I ask before submitting any paper work was the owner going to remove the property if I decided rent since the property is listed for sale and for rent. I was told that it would be removed. I submitted paper work and paid the application fee. Contacted my agent for a follow up since I monitor my credit and nothing had hit my credit report. My agent stated the *************************** said the seller would make a decision at the end of the following week. A week later the listing agent tells my agent the seller rented the unit to someone else, yet the status has not changed for this unit and my credit nor was a background ever completed. I requested for my application fee to be refunded and the agent told my agent no. This is so unethical and so unprofessional. There is no telling how long they have been doing this since it has been on the market for over 45 days and how many ppl they have done this too. I'm very familiar with the neighborhood as I have lived in this very neighborhood for over 4 yrs and my kids attend the local school. I reached out to local office and no one answered the phone. I'll be contacting the BBB as well to file a complaint.I believe there was discrimination because I hold a CHA Voucher and because I am an African American WomanBusiness response

Hi BBB,
Thank you for reaching out to allow us to explain our side of this situation. The property mentioned was listed for both sale and for rent. Our agent had a total of 5 applicants. All 5 applicants also had CHA vouchers. This particular applicant had the second lowest credit score based on the credit report that was ran. Her credit score was indeed pulled and provided to the landlord. The landlord chose another applicant with better credit. A few days later that applicant backed out. Right around the same time, a contract to purchase the property was provided to the landlord and they agreed to accept the contract. This property is currently under contract and pending closing.

I am rejecting this response because:
Business did not pull credit until after I notified agent credit had not been pulled but they denied unit. Business never email consumer credit report. Listing agent never stated there were other applicants that had already submitted applications. Would have never submitted an application knowing that there were other applicants.

Credit was pulled on the client and the seller/owner proceeded with a different offer for purchase of the property versus rental of the property.

I am rejecting this response because:
Agent for said company told my Agent property was rented to someone else. Property status has not changed. Credit was not ran until after contacting company to complain. I never received email with report being pulled and a copy of report. Company is practicing unethically and very unprofessional. If report was pulled send copy via email with the date to confirm.Sincerely,
