I rented a truck from this company 4/21/23. All was fine until the warehouse I was picking a pallet-up from put 1/2 deep gouges in the wood floor bed of the box truck belonging to Chicagoland. On returning the truck I let the company know about the damage. There are three wood planks with gouges in them. The truck has ****** miles on it. I would be frustrated if I were them as well, but they demanded $1000 dollars from me, citing the repair cost their own in-house mechanic gave. While I would be happy to compensate them, I find it difficult to believe repairs to already beat-up wood planks from frequent loading and unloading of a boxtruck by customers would cost $1000 for the additional damage incurred during my rental. This damage seems solely cosmetic, not affecting function. The only defense of the cost the owner could give was that it is one of the newer trucks he has. The $1000 seemed arbitrary. I think a few hundred would be more fair considering the damage is cosmetic and in an area of the truck that will only get further damage with use. It is a truck bed after all. The owner would not negotiate at all. Ideally I would like to be refunded partially, or have it proven to me the labor and materials truly add-up to $1000. No written estimate or invoice was provided aside from something that simply says "$1000" without further explanation. Seems fishy.Business response

We received a letter in reference to a claim made by a ***********************. We did not receive an original letter and are responding to the one I just received. *********************** rented a truck from ** and destroyed the floor of a brand new truck when his pallet dragged on the floor and a put two 15 foot gauges a half inch deep in the floor of a brand new truck (Pictures are below) in order to fix it we had to replace three of the 15 foot long floor panels. ******, taking our insurance was just responsible for the $1000 deductible, ****** was not happy but the cost to repair this floor was over $2500 so we were out the rest of that plus having the truck down for two and a half weeks while the floor was repaired.

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********. I am not happy with the charge and still feel the $1000 was arbitrary and unfair. This is the first time they care claiming repairs cost $2500, and the first I am hearing the $1000 was a "deductible." Until this point I was not made aware there was an insurance claim made, and the company had simply stated their costs due to the damages was $1000. I see the company does not intend to budge on their position, will not refund some of the money, and I would rather move on from the experience and call it a day at this point. So yes, it's ok to close the case. Thank you for following up on it.
Sincerely,
