I rented a cargo van in Chicago to move to ***. I picked it up at the ****** location and dropped it off in Queens, **. The headlights on this van were so dim, they were not any brighter than the daytime lights. I was driving overnight through very dark roads and could barely see 4ft in front of me. This was extremely dangerous and stressful. The headlights on a rental vehicle should not be so dim that I cannot safely operate the vehicle. It is the responsibility of Budget to make sure the vehicle's lights are up to legal standards prior to anyone renting it. Only a few hours into the drive, multiple warning lights came on the dashboard. The oil change light and maintenance light came on and stayed on for the entirety of the trip. These lights were accompanied by strange noises and the vehicle's acceleration acting up. Before the trip was complete, the window washer fluid light also came on. This was especially odd because it was raining most of the trip, so I rarely used the wiper fluid. The biggest issue was the roaches. Within the first hour of having the van I saw a ***** on my foot while driving. Being startled was dangerous while driving, but seeing a ***** at all was disgusting and absolutely disappointing. After it was loaded and throughout the trip we were seeing several roaches running around the van every time we stopped for gas or got out of the car for more than a few minutes. There were roaches in the glove box, around the seats, coming out of the dashboard, and a lot in the compartment under the passenger seat. We avoided them the entire trip and were constantly grossed out and irritated by the quality of this Budget van. I do not think I need to explain why paying $1400 for a ***** motel on wheels is unacceptable and very upsetting. This rental experience is one of the worst I have ever experienced in my life. The van was in terrible shape, besides the things mentioned above, it was scratched, dented, and missing siding pieces around the tires.

I picked up the truck on 10/28/22 after requesting to pick it up a day late. They did the inspection with me. The lady actually told me I was a boy and made fun of me over 9 times. They gave me a truck with the catalytic converter stolen and replaced with a pipe, a piece of black tape over the check engine light, and the wheel barrings were shot. I noticed as soon as I drove off the lot, and pulled over 2 blocks away from the location at Petsmart. I went home to pack as I have a herniated disk and bruised tailbone, so I had family and friends to help me move over the weekend. I called roadside assistance on 10/28/22 and after much back and forth, the mechanic arrived over 3 hours late. After he determined that it was undrivable, he told me it would be towed and to go home. The following Sunday on 10/29/22, they actually called me to tell me they lost the truck and had no record of it being towed. So they made me go drive to find it myself..completely insane. I had to hire movers, cleaners, extra supplies, food, etc...due to not getting a replacement truck until 11/1/22 around 2-3 pm CENTRAL time, when all my friends/family were then busy working. The new truck was not good and the wheel shook violently the entire drive, but I was so desperate as I was late to leave the apartment past my date I drove it anyways. I was so tired from driving it all night I accidentally left my wallet. I returned the truck to the location by 11/3/22 per my NEW contract agreement, which I never received. The woman told me I had to go fill it with more gas, when it was already completely full. She was incredibly rude, and kept telling me how she hated her job and wanted to quit. Their computers were down, so I received no receipt, and still haven't. She told me if I wanted to get my wallet back I had to bring a card for her to charge $230 extra on top of the $570 I already paid. She extorted me. I have called so many times, never received a call back from anyone.

In June 2021, I reserved a one way Budget rental truck in *******, GA. I drove the rental to Chicago spending tons of money in gas and taking good care of this vehicle. I filled up the vehicle one last time before dropping it off on a Sunday when the business happened to be closed. I left the keys in the drop box and parked the vehicle at the business, as instructed from the original location. At no point was I instructed to leave my personal paperwork (which I need for tax purposes), only to make sure it is full of gas/no damages. There were no damages from my rental time. All seemed fine until I noticed a charge of nearly $180 from this location on my credit card. I called the location and spoke to a ***** or ****. He claimed that I should have left my paperwork in the drop box but only found a key. (I received NO phone call asking me for this paperwork when the business opened the next day so it makes no sense that they can simply charge my credit card a ridiculous amount of money without notification). I instantly offered to bring the paperwork to him but I needed it or a copy for my tax records. He THEN decided that the gas tank was a "hair' below FULL and since I supposedly did not reach the FULL **** that I would be charged the additional $179. I questioned why he thinks I should pay $179 for what might be the equivalent of a gallon of gas and he said something crude about 'idiots filling up outside of the city' and disconnected the call. I called back multiple times to no answer and finally left a VM detailing the issue and that I would not be giving them any more money as it was turned in FULL of gas and if he needed the paperwork that I would bring it to him. No call back, no help, nothing. I disputed the amount through my credit card company but allowed them to charge $17.10 for what he called a 'hair' below full; that is MORE than enough to cover his made up gas shortage. (Contact will be made to the **** Budget *********** as well.)
