We brought our dog to the *** office in **********. He was exhibiting signs of an ear infection. They did an initial intake with vitals and then the Vet came and asked us his symptoms. This was all while sitting on a chair by the door. We told her he had been shaking his head and was pawing at his ears and he had an odor coming from the ears. She proceeded to look at him and said their otoscope was broken so she would just examine him visually. NEVER have I gone to a Vet with any of my dogs and not had the appropriate equipment for an examination. They did an ear swab and determined he had a fungal infection. The tech came over with a box containing ear drops and instructed us to put 8 drops in each ear once a day. She just stood there looking at us and I asked her if she was going to administer the first dose. She acted as though this was an unusual request. She got down on her knees and tried to put the drops in but our dogs ears were tender. He didnt want her touching his ears so she said to take him home and do it where it would be more comfortable for him. It is now Monday evening and we have yet to be able to put the drops in. When I called them back yesterday to tell them we couldnt get the drops in, the girl who answered the phone told me not to let him see the bottle and I might have more luck. There were three vet techs and the Vet there that day and they would have been able to administer the drops by holding him, which they should be trained to do. We have an appt. tomorrow with our Vet and will see what can be done. By the way, the antibiotics, Mometamax, 30 g, were $140.00 The entire visit was $540.00 for a 30 minute consultation which amounted to no resolution to the problem. I will never take my dog back to this place. I dont care if I have to drive two hours for another ER vet service. That place is a joke and shouldnt be operating if they dont have the proper equipment and cant handle putting drops I a dogs ears.

I'm sharing my experience as a cautionary tale for pet owners, especially regarding serious diagnoses. In November, my cat began exhibiting a severe cough, leading me to visit the Veterinary Emergency Group in Lincoln Park. The emergency vet, based solely on x-rays, misdiagnosed my cat with late-stage cancer, advising euthanasia despite his good quality of life. This diagnosis was given without conducting any additional tests.Thankfully, my regular vet at ****************** offered a different perspective. After thorough examination and tests, they diagnosed my cat with severe asthma, not cancer. He's now on treatment and doing well.My concerns extend beyond the misdiagnosis. The emergency vet's approach felt unethical, emphasizing euthanasia and not presenting other treatment options fairly. Furthermore, pursuing a response from their management regarding this incident was frustrating and time-consuming, though they eventually issued a full refund and promised to address the matter internally.I urge pet owners to always consult with their regular vet for serious diagnoses. While misdiagnoses can occur, especially in emergency settings, the conduct and professionalism of the veterinary staff are crucial. I had a distressing experience at Veterinary Emergency Group Lincoln Park and would not recommend their services based on my experience.

Veterinary Emergency Group tried to charge me $7000 for a procedure that the standard market rate is $2000-$2500. The dog needed surgery within 48 hours or he would die. I almost paid them until my friends informed me that I was getting robbed. The only words that I could use to describe this properly are highway robbery. The idea of charging 300% market rate for a life-saving procedure is disgusting to my very core.

Employees and doctors are all very new to the emergency business making it hard to trust the medicine that they are performing. As a former employee, I witnessed doctors asking techs for advice on how to treat cases because they had never been exposed, doctors that admitted to never doing very common emergency surgeries. The doctors are expected to treat exotic animals, even if they have never done it before, which is extremely dangerous for not only the staff untrained in these animals, but for the pets themselves. They tend to put a Bandaid on a lot of cases they are not comfortable treating and transferring them to the next nearest emergency facility, which is a waste of the owners time and money.I have witnessed racism from a particular doctor towards clients.I have been exposed to doctors and other staff using profanity about and towards other employees. This is a toxic workplace to work for and should be the last resort to bring your pet if you need true emergency care.
