On October 14, 2022 I paid ***************************, owner of Barb City Upholstery, ******, **, $689.90 with ******************* of ***** check # ****. This was to be used to purchase specifically chosen fabric for upholstering 2 chairs for my mother, *****************************, who is 95 years old. She is blind, and I am her power of attorney. We wanted mom's chairs recovered so she could have them done before she dies. I did not hear from ***** for a year. I called her last fall, 2023, and she said she would check with her son to see what he has done with them, and that she would call me back. She never did. I called her Sunday, March 17th, 2024. She said she would call me back. She never did. I called her yesterday asking her to call me back. She never did. I called her today. She never answered. I want the money back for my mother. We don't deserve this treatment. We are long time customers (more than 25 years).Initial Complaint

I contacted ***** at Barb City Upholstery last summer regarding recovering a Lazy Boy Recliner, a seat cushion on an old rocking chair and a valence. I picked out the fabric and my husband and I took our furniture over. In an earlier conversation ***** said she could have the work done in a couple of weeks after the material arrived. September 27th when we dropped the furniture off she said she would not have it in2 weeks after the fabric arrived but would get to it. By December Id not heard so I called. It was not ready. In early January she had the pad replaced on the rocking chair but not the matching valence or recliner. We went and picked it up and saw our chair there torn apart. In February I called and it was not done. Sometime in early March I stopped in at the shop in DeKalb. To my surprise the sign was gone, door was locked and it was empty inside. I immediately called and the DeKalb number was disconnected. There had been an after hours number listed in their recording and I still had that. Her son answered. Theyd moved the shop to ***, were getting settled there and would continue the work on the chair asap but they had a sewing machine down as well. I told him I could be patient for a bit longer but I was getting concerned. A few weeks later I got a call from **** who said they were going to continue to try to work on the chair but his sister who took it apart was out with a bad shoulder. He said they may need to refund my money, but were going to try to get it done. Since then I have called several times and they are not answering or returning my calls. We paid them $1000 in cash on September 27. I got my rocking chair with a new seat cushion. No Lazy Boy reupholstered and no valence I wanted. I have no idea what to do. They were a well established business that was struggling a bit after ***** but said they could do the work. Now I need help as I dont know where to turn. Thank you.
