Thanks for the email. We normally asked customer to come back and bring the vehicle back to our shop so we can inspect the vehicle again and this customer never brought the vehicle back to inspect the issue they are complaining about.

On the 24th of April 2022 I dropped off my vehicle to this Midas in Glen Carbon. It was after hours so I filled out an envelope stating the issues my vehicle was having. The check engine light had come on the Thursday or Friday prior and also I was getting a metal slicing noise coming from my rear passenger wheel when turning right. The next morning I received a call with a diagnosis with my vehicle which was explained not only to the customer service representative, but also the technician. They explained that the front brakes would need to be replaced and the check engine light was illuminated due to 4 oxygen sensors needing to be replaced. I explained to the technician that the van had very similar symptoms in the past and had fuel injectors replaced both times before to resolve issue, and there were still some originals left on the vehicle. He assured me that he tested the injectors and they were working as intended, but the oxygen sensors needed replacement. I said the noise I was hearing very specifically was coming from the rear passenger wheel and he again assured me that he checked the rear wheels and they looked fine, but the fronts would need to be replaced. I took him at his word as I am not a mechanic and maybe I was just hearing it wrong. With that being said I agreed to $1,343.96 worth of repairs to be performed. I picked up the vehicle later that day, paid so I could get my key and came back after hours to pick up the vehicle. As soon as I made a right turn I could hear the same noise. I called back the next morning, got the vehicle in and they said they made a mistake and I would need to replace the rear brakes and rotors at cost. I have serious concerns that the work done to my vehicle needed to be done at all as my vehicle is still showing the same symptoms with the engine and the wheel. I have also offered for them to fix the wheel at their cost to prevent me from having to report them to the BBB. They declined.

      Hello,
This is in response to the complaint attached you have received.
Shop has performed the specific repair and after the repair was performed another issue was addressed to the Shop and we had asked the customer to bring the car back to inspect it again and see the issue.
Customer had declined to come back and asked for the refund which the management had declined.
We are still offering the customer to bring it back and let us inspect the issue.
Should there be another concerns please feel free to contact us.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

I brought my vehicle to Midas to take care of 2 very specific issues.  1, The noise coming from the rear of my vehicle when turning right.  2, my check engine light was illuminated.  I spoke not only with the customer service representative, but also the technician to ensure that their diagnosis would take care of these two issues and they assured me it would.  I did not pay $1,343.96 to have my front brakes changed and O2 sensors to be replaced.  I paid that amount in trust that their diagnosis would be correct and my issues would be resolved.

I picked up my vehicle and my brakes were already making the exact same noise the same day.  By that time it was too late to call in because the business was closed.  I called in the very next day so Midas could fix the issue.  They told me I would have to pay an additional amount for something they horribly misdiagnosed.  I refused to bring it to their shop and that is when I contacted the BBB.

Friday the 29th the check engine light came back on.  I had only been able to drive the vehicle to and from work.  I drove less than 50 miles in the city, no highway.  I contacted them again.  At this point I had no trust in the business in taking care of the issue or trying to sell me more things I did not need.  I took it to another shop.  I did not tell them that I had a previous issue, I just stated that I had a noise coming from the rear of my vehicle when turning right and that my check engine light had come illuminated.   They found that the rear brakes were in need of replacement, and that the check engine light was on because there was damage done to my engine.  At that point he personally showed me that I had dropped off my vehicle without an engine cover and that the last person to work on the vehicle damaged the casing to the engine by over-tightening bolts which would cause air intake issues that would cause the engine light to illuminate.  If left untreated, it would do permanent to irreversible damage to my catalytic converter. The other company was able to take care of my brakes for a fraction of the price Midas had quoted me.  They were going to have to look into being able to find the part that was damaged due to Midas' work.  I included picture a picture of the damage done.  I also have pictures of the invoice and the engine missing the engine cover.  If needed I can provide.

Everything that was performed by Midas was either misdiagnosed and installed negligently, or worse, they are charging customers for things they do not need and are installed in a harmful manner.  I want a full refund and hopefully the damages done to my vehicle will cost less than what I paid to attempt to have it fixed from Midas in Glen Carbon in the first place.  Thank you.

      Sincerely,

      **** *******

The Glen Carbon, IL Midas direct mailed me a flyer advertising oil changes for $19.95. When I tried to get one they told me they don't stock conventional oil & I would have to pay $59.99 for an oil change. That's 3x the advertised price. This is a textbook example of "bait & switch" advertising. This has happened many times before to me at this shop. Midas had no intention of actually performing oil changes for $19.99 well before the flyer was even printed. I would like Midas to live up to the offer they made to me.
