6 weeks ago I asked my landlord if she would accept my *** trained dog to live with me in a no pet apartment. She agreed, so I got all the paper work and called her so we could meet and get approved for it. 4 weeks had gone by and she still had not reached out to me. She finally picked up my paperwork last week and states that she has no legal obligation to tell me why she is denying my *** documents. I have confirmed multiple times that I have everything legally asked to provide for my ***. She is being very immature about the whole situation and is illegally taking pictures of me at my Apartment Complex. She is also stating that my doctor ****** exist and Im making the whole thing up.

On ******, I applied for an apartment on **** ****** in Collinsville, IL with ******* *******. I had already paid the $29.00 fee through ****** for a credit check, background check, and so on. Because landlords advertise their properties on ******, they can access the full report at no cost. As a result, the applicant does not need to pay for these services through ****** and then pay the landlord an additional fee for the same purpose. ******* ******* defrauded me and demanded an additional $33.00 fee to do the same thing (credit check, background check, etc.). I told her I already paid via ******, and she agreed to use the ****** reports, but insisted on being paid as well. She admitted to me that she had already taken money from two other people and then denied them access to the apartment. I, was hesitant because I did not get a good vibe from her. However, I am still in need of a rental property so, I went ahead with her. She did the same to me and then began dodging me. She refused all of my phone calls until I marked my phone number as unavailable on caller ID. She has repeatedly defrauded others by using this website to defraud others as well as myself. Also, I asked her for identification proof because she has my social security number, bank information, birth date, proof of income, and so on. I need to confirm that she is who she claims to be. She was surprised and she couldn't produce any proof, so she went public as ***** ******. I asked her who this other person was. She stated that she was using this person's identity because other people were referring to her as ***** ******, so she never changed her identity and continued to go by this name. This is a common scam used by landlords to profit from potential tenants because they profit from the application process while still denying the tenant the apartment. She attempted to conceal the fact that she was denying me because my credit score was in the 600 range. My credit score was 774 then and now.

It seems there was a misunderstanding between ****** **** and me as to her application.  The only service I use ****** for is to advertise an apartment for rent.  I do not use any other service as I use Tenant Background Search for verification of our rental application.  She mentioned that she already paid $29 for a credit and background search to ******.  I had no idea what she was talking about.  I did some research after receiving your letter.  According to ****** they don't provide rental applications services on behalf of landlords.  The renter has to proactively create a tenant profile and run their own background and credit check, which they can submit to an unlimited number of participating rental listings for 30 days, which we are not.  ****** did not do any of these steps with me.  We talked on the phone several times and met to show her the apartment in which the tenant was home at the time.  I was surprised when she wanted verification of who I was after viewing the apartment.  I showed her two credit cards with my name on them, which seemed to satisfy her at the time.  She asked for my email address as to send me her award letter for Social Security Disability and I gave it to her.  I also had to email her because the address she put on our rental application was invalid.  She later asked why Kristina ****** name came up and I told her that has been on there since my husband old computer from his days as a teacher 25 years or more ago.  I have no idea how to get it off of the computer, and it has never been a problem, until now.  I have never gone by that name or been referred to as that name.  ****** has stated in her complaint that "this is a common scam used by landlords to profit from potential tenants because they profit from the application process while still denying the tenant the apartment".  She also stated that "she admitted to me that she had already taken money from two other people and then denied them access to the apartment".  This statement is not true.  ****** **** was very nice at first but when her application was denied she did an about face.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because: ***** **** was a witness to this entire conversation. The landlord's husband was on the phone to because he was looking for his wife, asking God me to give her a message. She looked like a total different person from the first lady I met with another man to show the apartment. When I came back on Memorial day, she did not look like the same person, and a red flag went up for me. This is the reason I asked for her identification because I had given her all of my personal information (bank account information, social security number, driver's license, award letter, etc). Therefore, I felt that I had every right to know who she was. I was not satisfied with seeing the two credit cards she showed me because they had two different names on them. I asked for her driver's license to verify her identity and she became indignant. ***** **** was asking her too for identity. This landlord told me she had taken money from several individuals and denied them. Not because they did not qualify, only because she didn't want to. The same thing with me. My credit score was 774, no debt, etc. Another tenant who lives there from Texas stated that she was not a good person to deal with because she continues to make money off the application process and never move people in. Therefore, I am still requesting my refund back because yes I told her I paid ****** for the application process, background check, credit report, etc. And she agreed to use it, until I arrived she kept demanding that I pay her too. So she made $99.00 dollars off of me and two others, and still denied us because she is frauding people through the process and scamming ******. Thank you, ****** ****** ****

      Sincerely,

      ****** ****
