Mr. ****** hired us to do several projects including a new deck. He chose treated lumber for the deck and the job was completed late spring. Once complete, we advised Mr. ****** to stain the deck once water would absorb and not bead on surface (approximately the beginning of June) to seal the wood. Sealing the deck was not part of our contracted services and was to be completed by the homeowner or others.
The customer recently called to complain about the wood twisting and splitting on top of handrail. My company visited the home as well as a representative from supplier who provided the wood for the project. The representative mentioned that it was not a craftsmanship issue and that the material should have been sealed or stained. After seeing the problem it was evident the homeowner did not seal the deck and this was the cause of the problem with the wood.
Even though my company was not responsible for the issue with the wood and under no obligation to do anything for free, we decided to replace the boards he was complaining about, in an effort to go above and beyond for customer good will despite being berated and harassed during the process. We started to sand the tops both that we installed that day and the original but Mr. ****** told us to leave the property immediately. The customer still needs to seal/stain the deck to prevent any future issues like this. We are not responsible for any problems with the wood due to a lack of sealing it but we will always stand by our craftsmanship.

I am rejecting this response because:
The problem was the wood was not ready to be treated and it was poor Craftmanship because the wood twisted do to not being properly installed they cut corners and used one screw at the end of the board and this was done in May the problem started in August so the wood was not ready to be treated the only reason he came out was I put pictures and left a one star reviewBusiness response

As mentioned in previous response, in order to go above and beyond standard procedure we had a meeting at Mr.******** home with rep from lumber company who supplied the material to inspect the condition of the deck. In the representative’s professional observation he discovered that it was indeed NOT a craftsmanship issue. The deck should have been stained within “a couple of weeks” or once water will absorb in the lumber as I told Mr. ****** when we finished the deck. The way treated lumber is treated is not as it used to be therefore it needs to be stained much sooner than in years past. ********* ********i Construction at that point had no obligation to do anything further. Although we had no obligation to do anything else to help Mr. ******, in order to again go above and beyond standard procedure, we scheduled a time to replace the top rail (which was Mr. ******** complaint). While there we replaced the top rails that were of his concern while being berated and spoken to abusively. In an attempt to go even further to make sure Mr. ****** was satisfied we started to sand down the entire top rail but then were told to get off of the property immediately while again being yelled at with profanity and being berated. We feel that we have tried our best to be reasonable and definitely gone above and beyond as we strive to do with all of our clients.
Here is information on how to stain pressure treated lumber.
