I contacted ********* at Outlaw Design and Roofing about a roof issue on my house. He initially said, he would try to make it out Thursday September 21 since he was in the area, but we agreed to a set date of September 25, 2023 in case the job went longer than expected. Come September 25, 2023, I took a half day off, so I could be home when ********* showed up. An hour went by, never showed up. I texted, asking if he was coming. He ended up calling me and he was on another job and was not making it. So, we scheduled another day on a Monday October 2, 2023. He did show up that and looked at my roof issue I was concerned about. I then asked if while up there if he could possible see any damage where another leak could be. He did look at found a few spots and asked if I wanted him to caulk those areas. He then stated that I could of just sent him pictures, when clearly through text and phone calls I stated exactly the issue and area of the roof. Then goes on to tell me he had to charge me something. I figured okay, I expected to cover cost for the caulk, so maybe $50.00 total. Even though, he used an open tube of caulk already which runs maybe $20.00. Then he goes on to say he was going to charge me $220.00 dollars unless I wanted to pay with cash, because of the caulk, the drive, and him bringing one of his workers. This was after, I was told the inspection was free. I clearly stated the area of the roof and I wanted him to look at it and give me an estimate of the cost to fix. I should not be paying for his employee when he had the texts of what I asked, so no other person was needed. Also, it is now January 2024, and I have not received any type of estimate for the roof area we discussed. I also, missed to half days, which makes a full day of work total that I missed, because Outlaw Roofing, did not stick to their word and times. This company is not that trust worthy and scams about free inspections. I want my $200.00 back and should get paid for missing work.

      Business response

We did a roof about a year and a half ago prior to the most recent engagement with him.

When we went, we were there to look for a leak inside of the home. He said there was a brown stain on the ceiling that wasn't there before. He made this call to us during rain season. He showed us the spot so we got on the roof and tried to look for cracks in the shingles. He has a new roof. Shingles are probably 10-15 years. He isn't trying to replace it - it's a good roof. He said something about an inspection in his complaint but we never talked about an inspection.

We fixed the leak and I charged him the normal fee. It came out to about $220.

The charge was for the repair. I never spoke to **** about an estimate.

      Customer response

Yes this is a horrible experience. As I just received the letter 2 days ago and seen the response.  ********* at Outlaw Design roofing as been deceitful and condescending from the get go. I have the actual text messages of the conversation.  I asked if he could come do an estimate on the front corner of my roof by the gutter.  There was absolutely no, discussions about any kind of roof repair that day.  Matter, of fact, there was no roof repair that day either. I do not consider putting two nickel size drops of caulk roof repair.  He lied, there was never a brown stain on my ceiling and is not one there. I asked for an inspection/estimate. In the text messages exchanged, he even talked about how know one at his office took notes or wrote anything down. As we discussed in the text several times about what was expected with the estimate of the metal by my gutter and that corner of the roof, he never mentioned that in his response, go figure.  When he showed up, he brought a worker and made the comment that he brought someone because he was not sure what he was going to be doing there, did not even bring a ladder, yet the text messages and phone call clearly stated about the estimate. Never was there any talk about repairs that day and there was no talk about a fee. I was just suppose to get an estimate and he said he would write that up and I never received an estimate or a call of any kind for 3 months.  I have a witness as well that he stated that. Sorry, this guy and company are shady as he was going to charge me well over $200 dollars, unless I could pay cash, then he would charge around $200.00.  I was not charged an estimate fee when he did my garage roof, no one ever charged me an estimate.  There was never a mentioned of any fees before or during. I have done roofing and know how to roof, and definitely know how to use a caulk gun. And caulk does not cost that much.  Again, he ripped me off and I want others to know. I contacted 2 other roofing companies and I asked them the cost for them to put caulk in a few spots and the highest cost was $55.00 dollars. This guy and his company are very unprofessional. He wants to talk about doing my garage, however, they left nails all over the ground, luckily I had a magnet to help collect some but not all as I got a nail in my tire.  The first time anything came up about my roof leak I thought I may have had was after he was there, using my ladder and was up on the corner of my roof checking out the spot I called about in the first place for an estimate. There was no mentioned about an inspection in my previous complaint. It was an estimate, now if he wants to call that an inspection then okay.  I have all the text about the estimate. He stated I showed them the spot. No, I showed just him the spot inside the house I thought it was coming from, however, he said he could not see anything but used the inside as a reference to try and look on the roof on the other side of the peak from the actually place I asked for the estimate. If the BBB is going to let shady people like this work and take peoples money, next steps will be to the court room, etc.

Again, I keep track of everything I do with business and details. I have the text messages that show the truth and what all was talked about.  This guy remembers nothing, anytime he ever talked on the phone or in person, he always asked me to remind him what was going on.  I never made a call, I texted him. Then he called me and talked for a minute about him coming out. He was never there to look for a leak, I texted him about an estimate for an area outside my house on the roof that was no where near the so called leak. I've seen people lie before but this is a new level.  If I can get the text off my phone and share it I will for ALL to see.
