Due to a Hail Storm in the summer of 2020, I contacted and later contracted with Advance Construction to handle repairs to the house: Roof, siding and gutters. During the contract negotiations, they offered a no contingency rebate for all three services totaling $900. Due to a number of factors: difficulty from us to pick colors of materials, and later the availability of roofing materials and labor, the actual work didn't start until March thru May 2021. I made a number of complaints to the job manager regarding the crew's discarding cigarettes' butts, nails, materials and excess food on the property. Documenting the issues with emails and pictures. The project manager repeatedly apologized and offered various plus-up work as compensation for our discomfort and inconvenience. Two items in particular: installing a man-door and door trim. During the effort they broke a portion of the driveway. They compensated us for the driveway, but claimed they did not owe us the rebate.

      Customer response

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I have an "issue" with the response. Their response suggests a few issues. I have documented proof of many issues. The construction crew(s) were sloppy, discarding nails, cigarette butts, leftover food, metal trim, brackets and cigarette butts on our property. Debris was strewn around all four sides of the house, for which I documented and sent pictures to Advance. Items were found in bushes, deck, flowerpots, not to mention driveway, yard and mulch. That had nothing to do with weather. I'm reasonably confident, that had I NOT pointed it out, repeatedly, it would have not been picked up.
They agreed to install the man-door, that I purchased, which they did. They failed to install the locks on the door, which was left open, after the construction crew left. No mention of it, I wasn't aware, unless I had not checked it before bed. I installed the locks myself at 10:00 at night. I asked them to install the trim, I had asked for a quote, but they said could "easily" be done, when they finished the punch list.
The length of the wrap-up punch list indicates to me, this is not quality work. Gutters were not straight, replaced lights in soffits had to be reinstalled, trim was uneven, airgaps between the installed door and the threshold.
The small deck issue was small to them but was just outside the French doors to the deck, clearly visible to anyone entering or exiting the house. The damage was done when the contractor was using the claw side of a hammer, to break-up ice on the wooden deck, damaging several boards.
Whether the repairs were made or not, before the house was sold, is not Advance's concerns. They did the damage; they should pay for the repair. Just for the record, we had to include the cost of repair, in the sale agreement.
The gutter debacle is frustrating. When the salesman and I walked the property, I highlighted that I wanted larger downspouts. The salesman claimed he had knowledge of roof drainage, and our downspouts were too small and would be upgraded at no additional cost. The issue gets problematic when Advance's contractor installs the smaller down spouts, but also reroutes one down-spout from the top floor to drain onto an already over-loaded garage drain system.
The driveway issue is plain and simple. Their delivery truck stabilization leg broke through the cement. They paid for the repair. It's state before it was broken, was that it was usable. My brother-in-law who used to drive those trucks, never drove on peoples drive ways for that reason. However, the fork=lift that delivered the siding product, that proceed the roofing delivery truck, did not damage the driveway.
I am not sure how the author calculated that we owed no deductibles. Again, no business of Advance's but we paid our house insurance deductible. Had we received the promised rebates from Advance, we would not have been money ahead.
Finally, though out the entire process, approximately 8-9 months, we were in constant contact with their salesman. Sometimes I couldn't reach him, I contacted other Advance sales staff. I sent numerous pictures of the debris, consistently brought to their attention the debris, nails on driveway etc. Through their response to these dozens of text messages and emails, there was never a mention that the rebates would not be granted.
In an email Advance stated that they are not granting the rebates due to a loss in margin on the construction job. They had opportunity to recover cost over-runs with supplements to my insurance company. The lack of margin on this job, doesn't negate the original deal of rebates.
