      To whom it may concern,

Firstly, we would like to apologize to the homeowners, and take full responsibility for the lapse in communication regarding this matter.

In order to remedy this complaint, we have reached out to the homeowners and, in addition to apologizing for the communication lapse, we have informed them we will be out the week of October 31st to complete the drip edge on the portion of roof we were contracted to install.

We would also like to clarify that the contracted project as laid out for the property in question, was to install roof and drip edge on one of the propertys two portions of roof. Some of the delay in addressing the homeowners concerns and scheduling the drip edge install, had to do with us wanting to ensure that the homeowners understood that the drip edge we would be installing, would not match aesthetically with the drip **** (or lack thereof) on the second portion of roof, on which we have not been contracted to work.

In any case, the homeowners will not be charged anything additional for the completion of the drip edge that is part of our install. And, to clarify further, the additional $1,500 quoted, was a proposal to install drip edge on the second portion of roof, in order to match the appearance of both portions.

Please feel free to reach out with any additional questions. **************

      Sincerely,
      The Showalter ************* Team

On 2/12/22 two men came to our home to correct what we thought was warranty work from a previous job. They installed one shingle. On 2/16/22 we received an invoice for $416 (for 3 man hours of work). Apparently the shingle in question was never touched during the first job so was not covered by warranty (but it should have been included in the original job). We have been talking with them for a week and have not been able to come to a resolution. We never received an estimate prior to the work on 2/12/22; only the invoice after the work was completed. How do you justify 3 man hours of work for installing one shingle?Invoice# *****

As indicated in the complaint, the job was initially presumed to be a warranty repair, however, once the crew arrived on the job, it was determined that the damaged area was not part of the original scope of work, and therefore not under warranty.

Following this determination, the customer in question was fully informed of this fact by the technician(s), and subsequently signed and agreed to, a Time and Materials job rate; which does not necessitate an estimate and is determined by the rates and material costs spelled out in the agreement below. Additionally, due to the initial assumption that this was a warranty job, we waived our usual service fee.

Per the signed agreement, (see attached) hourly labor rates are $120 per man, per hour in 1/2-hour increments, and includes travel time. We made clear that Algonquin is outside our immediate service area, and that Time and Materials jobs include travel time. We  also double checked the job GPS data, and confirmed that from the time our crew left the call prior, to the time they completed the Orzes' job, was almost exactly 1.5 hours.

      In summary, the Hourly Labor Rate ($120) x 2 Technicians x 1.5 Hours + ~$53 in Materials = $416

Excerpt from Showalter Roofing Service, Inc. Time and Materials Agreement:

I understand and agree to the following:
Showalter Roofing Services, **** ("SRSI") has completed roofing work at the above address (the "Original Work") as further described in the contracts for such Original Work. The Original Work is covered under SRSI's workmanship warranty specified in the contract for such Original Work. SRSI will repair, at SRSI's sole cost and expense, any repairs necessary to correct defective workmanship in the Original Work. If it is determined by SRSI that the cause of the leak is not related to the Original Work (e.g. caused by ice dams, storm damage, wind damage, hail damage, animal damage, masonry issues or any other cause not related to defective workmanship), then I agree to pay SRSI the following fees for work completed:
      Service Charge: Waived
Hourly Labor Rate: $120 per man, per hour in 1/2-hour increments, and includes travel time. Time starts once our service team starts traveling to the above stated project location. For the avoidance of doubt, this includes time for assessment of any leak cause and time for completion of repairs.
Materials: You will be charged for the actual materials used and rubbish disposal to complete repairs at the above stated project location.

I am rejecting this response because:

You need to know who you are endorsing.
      We were lied to twice:
      1) They told us the original job was complete but they did not address the shingle that needed subsequent repair.
      2) They told us the subsequent repair was scheduled on a day they were going to have a crew in the area, yet we were charged travel time from **********.
When questioned about their verbal commitments their standard answer is I dont recall.
They will get their money because we signed a contract (shame on me for not having a lawyer look at it first).

The BBB is doing the public a disservice by recommending them.

      Sincerely,

      *****************
