On 2/8/22 I got a routine oil change at Take 5 in Niles, ** on my 2013 ******* Accent, total of $88.91. On 4/3, my car oil light flickered & motor emitted a loud rumble. Pressing the gas increased its volume and repetition. Eventually, my check engine light turned on.Morning of 4/4, I had my car towed to my mechanic's shop (***). Immediately upon inspection, he, and two colleagues, noticed the oil filter was loosened, causing all of the oil to leak out. This resulted in my motor being blown and my car being totaled. The filter presented with one side completely rusted, while the other side was not. It also had a ***** in it, preventing it from making full contact with the motor and not sealing properly. *** and his colleagues are confident whoever performed the oil change failed to inspect or ensure the filter was adequately installed. It was also noted that the service writer entered incorrect info on the windshield sticker. The suggested mileage for my next oil change was entered as "*******". As of 4/4/22, I had ******* miles on my odometer. For perspective, this means I would've had to make multiple round trips from ******* to LA within 54 days. *** performed my last oil change prior to Take 5 in Sept of 2021, where he reset my odometer then (which I never touch). Based on the math, I only racked up about ***** miles since then.*** got into contact with J.S., a manager of Take 5 in Niles. J.S. and another rep came to his shop to inspect and document the damage. They said it would be filed with our claim and corporate would contact us soon. Today, *** called the number that J.S. provided to get a status update, but nobody answered or returned his calls. J.S. finally texted *** to say Take 5 refuses all responsibility. He told *** to contact his "Managing Director", J.G.R. When *** contacted J.G.R., he was unaware of any claim on my behalf. Aside from this awful runaround, I now have to buy a new car! I expect, at least, partial comp for my blown motor.
