Paid invoice on 2/23/2024 totaling $13,020 for roof replacement job that initial work started in November 2023. Estimate of work that was signed on 9/7/2023 stated that work was to include replacement of shingles, inspect and repair or replace decking as needed ($60 per replacement sheet), remove existing fascia and fascia board on all *****, prep existing areas for new installation and install new fascia board and fascia using nails where needed. Also the removal of existing gutters and installation of new gutters including brackets, color: brown. Total: $12,600. Initial roof work completed on 11/13/2023. Fascia work was not completed until 2/9 at which time it seems that not all the ***** were repaired. I did not notice work was not completed until 2/20 when the final team arrived to install gutters. Not the brown gutters I originally ordered as 6 months after work had started, the company then tried to get me to wait three more weeks for those I wanted. They had already removed my old gutters over a week previously, so we caved in and went for white gutters. I really just wanted to be done with this business for good, but I digress. The company sent me a final invoice and contacted me to ask about the gutter installation and I informed them that the job was not complete due to the missing fascia. I told them I had pictures and would like to send them for review. I was given a number to text them to, which I did *** thereafter. Less than 20 minutes after I sent my pictures, the company said they would address them later that afternoon as they were not in the office at that time. I heard nothing. The following morning, I contacted them again about the pics and was told they would call me in the afternoon. No contact. Nothing ever again. I chose to pay the invoice as I did sign a contract, however I feel since the company has neglected to do their share in completing the job, I should be compensated a percentage as I must now have another company finish the work.

I contacted fm exteriors because I had Gail damage from the hail storm in *uly. I gave them my first initial payment that I received from my insurance, to fix my roof, gutters and partial siding.. **** ************ is the contractor I’ve been working with. I gave him the check on 9.14.23. He told me it would be 2-5 weeks before they would start. Currently going in 7 weeks still no work has been done. Called and texted him on week 4 he said he hasn’t received the report back on the siding yet. Texted him and asked if they could do the roof while we wait for the report kn the siding. No response. Called the office and talked to ******* she informed me tgey were still waiting for my payment that’s why nothing has started. I informed her that I had given my payment to **** 4 weeks ago, she *****s that she was going to call him and find out what was going on. ***** **** said for them to replace all of the siding fm exteriors would have to prove that my siding no longer exist. **** cut a piece of my siding off and supposedly sent it to Florida a place called Intel and tgey can find out if it’s still in existence or not and if it isn’t they send a report to them and then fm sends it to the insurance company. Now back to my complaint, later tgat day ******* calls me back and says that she got a hold of **** and he was bringing the check to the office and he was going to resubmit the report to intel about the siding. I asked her if it was possible for them to do my roof while we wait on the siding report. She said they start from the top down, which she explained they would start with the roof. Then the siding then the gutters. She said I would have to talk to **** about it. I explained that * have called and texted and he doesn’t respond. She called me on 10.12.23 and left a message stating that her and **** resubmitted the report for the siding and they should know something in 2 weeks. When 2 weeks rolls around, which is week 4 by now, no phone call, texted **** no response. Call the office talk to ******* again she said she spoke to **** that morning and he said he still hasn’t heard anything front Intel yet about the siding. She said for me to call **** he had more information. Called no response, called the office 3 times between 3-5 pm went straight to voicemail mail. Called Friday 10.27.23 and spoke with ******* again told her **** wasn’t responding to my calls or texts asked if I could get my money back, she said she would have *esse call me he is ****’s boss and I could speak to him about it. No call from him called the office today 10.30.23 talked to ******* again told her no response from *esse she *****d she was going to have her gm call me it’s now 425 no response from tgem either. Sent an email to the company to no response from the email either. Going on 7 weeks still no work done and no update on my status. I asked for my check back that’s why I was referred to these other people by *******.

FM exteriors did several repairs to my home. The primary issue I have is with moisture barrier and window flashing that was supposed to be installed, but was not. The company admitted this was not done and sent someone out to complete the work, though getting this accomplished took years after the original repair. However, the area being unprotected from the elements resulted in additional damage to the home. One issue is flooring that was damaged by water that came into the house because of the incomplete work. They have made no effort to fix this damage or offer reimbursement for me to have the flooring fixed. They also installed the front door unit and have had to come out several times to make repairs because water and cold air was finding its way into the house. Their representative stated they would take the door out and reinstall it to ensure it was done correctly, something they are now saying they will not do, stating that their contractor "confirmed the door was installed correctly". Additionally, because of the absence of the moisture barrier they were supposed to install, wood around the door became wet and eventually led to termite damage. They claim an exterminator told them their work could not have caused the termite damage. While not directly, there was no termite damage prior to this work and once they finally made the repair, the termites moved on and are no longer present. The exterminator I hired to do the remediation directly conflicts what FM claims, stating that termites are in fact attracted to moisture. I gave FM Exteriors many more chances than they deserved to resolve this situation. They did only the minimum, did not do what they told me they would do and are now placing the entire cost of the repairs of the termite damage on me. I am asking for a refund of the cost I will pay for the door to be removed and repair the damaged wood around the door.

      Ms ****,
We are sorry for the way you feel. Our team worked very hard to help you with your existing water problem due to another contractor. We also found other problematic areas your home was facing due to water intrusion and addressed. The professional exterminator was adamantly clear the work we were involved with lead to no cause of termites. We are sorry you disagree and felt that should fall on us.

      Customer response

The company continues to use the term "another contractor", but all of the work outlined in this complaint was supposed to have been completed by F-M Exteriors. The original work that was supposed to have been done by F-M (moisture barrier, flashing around the window/door) was not completed. This was verified by a representative of F-M. This caused additional damage that was a direct result of the actions of F-M contractors/employees and has never been addressed (unrelated to the termite damage). Flooring in the foyer was damaged F-M has never offered to resolve this in any way.

They also agreed to take out the door and verify it was installed correctly, which they did not do.They sent a different company, who did this work as part of the repair for the termite damage (at my expense).

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

The company still refuses to acknowledge their part in these issues. They continue to say "other contractor", but all work outlined in this complaint was supposed to have been completed by F-M. The termite damage aside, the work that was supposed to have been done by F-M was not done and was never resolved.

      Sincerely,

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because: Your company installed the door and was supposed to install moisture barrier and flashing around the window. Because two of those things were NOT DONE AT ALL and one of them was not done correctly, the flooring inside my house was damaged. I'm not quite sure how you continue to say that damage is not attributed to the work your company was supposed to do.

      Sincerely,

On 8/16/22, *************************, with F-M Exteriors, ************************************************************, examined the roof on *********** and gave us an estimate of $2,496.11 for repair of the damage. We agreed that no more than two people should be on the roof at one time because it is a metal roof with no center support. We also ask that no equipment be parked on our newly asphalted driveway. We paid the entire amount on this same date. We were told by ************** that repairs would be made in approximately six weeks & that they would call us with an exact date of when repairs would be done so that we could be at home. Today, Oct. 3rd, 2022, two men showed up without contacting *********** on our new driveway and had a ladder going up on the roof. My husband was in the shower, so I went out and asked roofer ****** why they didnt contact us and that only 2 men should be on the roof at one time. He said he was told to come here & fix the roof and that now he was going to leave, which he did. My husband called & spoke with *****************, the Production Manager. He was so rude and told us that he was going to put us at the end of their list. We said that we wanted our money refunded and he said that they werent able to refund our money. He said that ***************************** was not available to speak with us. I then called back and asked ******* to refund our money and to have ************************* call us. We have not as yet received a response. ********************* was so rude to us that we are both traumatized by his treatment of two 78 year old people. I also intend to turn them over to the Atttorney General of the State of ** for taking advantage of elderly people.

I hired this company to put on a steel roof. They took the siding and gutters off the back of my house. It caused leaking in my home. I contacted them about the leaking and they sent someone out and they put a plastic tarp where it was leaking. The next week they put a new gutter up. They didn't put the siding back on the house. Anytime it rains, it leaks and my wood gets wet. I have called them about the siding and they told me they would get back to me and haven't. I have red iron sticking out under the roof that was put there to stop the leaking.

      Business response

      01/14/2022

To clarify, the fascia board was completely rotted due to an improper gutter install prior to our tenure of contracted work. We could not move forward with the roofing project as we were contracted. We did remove the gutter and siding, installed a new fascia board and a new SEAMLESS gutter at no charge to customer. We also properly installed house wrap over the exposed wall to make sure there were no additional leaks to the home. The pre-existing gutter was leaking so badly it was causing damage to the wall. We have not reinstalled the siding to date due to multiple factors. 1) We were closed during the holidays to allow our employees and staff time to spend time with family. 2) the weather has been regularly below freezing. Temperatures has to be able freezing and in most cases, about 45 degrees to work with vinyl siding so it won't crack and break. We do have every intention of reinstalling the siding. The wall area is currently weather tight.

As for the "red iron", this is something that is pre-existing and was not installed by our company, but by a relative to the homeowner. We have no idea why it was installed in the manner it was and is not related to the roofing project we were contracted to do since it was on the side of the fascia on the front of the home, NOT THE ROOF.

All pre-existing repairs, unrelated to our contracted work, is solely the responsibility of the homeowner.
