Claws and Paws is a (no kill) rescue center for animals. Also a thrift store. Its mainly volunteers working. They are in the process of moving down the road. That lady that runs this facility is named ******* ******** who ALSO runs Olney IL Richland County Animal Control (kill shelter) which I’m also reporting separate. She is posting both places are no kill and switches the animals back and forth between facilities picking a choosing. Wish causes huge distress on the animals which will cause them to act out. Well, whatever animals that are not getting fostered or adopted fast enough they DO put that animal down through a vet from the animal control she runs. They were also taking donations and in return would paint your animals on the outside wall. That never happened. ******* would say she would correct the issue and never did. ******* also promises people like myself she would keep a pet incase something were to happen like she did myself. Then I find out she ended up putting him down. Shelley’s boyfriend who tried to keep him did get me a nose print and paw print. I had to find out by my mother in law because, ******* was avoiding any callas and messages about my dog Shadow. She is posting false information and is a big conflict of interest running a (no kill) rescue while running a (kill) animal control shelter.

i am the director of Claws and Paws Animal Rescue Center and I am also employed by Richland County Animal Control. In response to this review I would like to inform the party that Claws and Paws helps Richland County Animal Control by taking in animals after they have been at the facility for a certain amount of time or if they are a special needs animal. Richland County is a NO KILL shelter and the only times we have had to euthanize is because of sickness or aggression. Your dog was relinquished to Richland County Animal Control by you l when  he (Shadow) had attacked your boyfriend and you admitted that you  were "scared" of your own dog. Upon receiving the dog and knowing that a dog with behavior issues such as his, RCAC would more than likely have to euthanize for the safety of humans, we at Claws and Paws still decided to take him into our program and work with him and assess his behavior a little more in depth . After 7 weeks of working with Shadow, we were seeing no improvement and he was actually becoming more aggressive,  especially to new volunteers and would lunge at them through the cage. Our vet assessed him also and informed us that it was in best interest to euthanize because of his demeanor. Our hearts were broken as we despise euthanizing any  animal. We tried wholeheartedly.

As far as the paintings they were all done per a local artist. We basically gave her the canvas of our building to fulfill people's wishes to have their pets painted. I'm sure that she would refund the money if she was contacted.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because: I have multiple people telling me different things. I don’t appreciate the ignorance and lies. Own up to your part. I’m speaking for my dog. Since you can’t call him by his name. I don’t and won’t accept anything.

      Sincerely,

      ****** *****

Shadow was disposed of by you to Richland County Animal Control. He was scheduled to be euthanized at animal control ( per the Richland County Animal Control officer  and we tried to save him, however, he was too abused. We are sorry for ******** sad and unfair  life!! If he hadn't been so scarred from his abuse we may have been able to fix him. Our veterinarians whom with  we work closely, felt this had to be done as he was a danger to humans and other pets.
