In 2023 I went to a ******* ****** franchise in ******* owned by *** Khatib and paid *** Khatib $1,000 to do my taxes. From late May through the middle of September he ignored me. I received promise after promise: h*** call you on Monday, h*** call you on Tuesday, h*** call you by the end of the week. All of these were lies. This went on all summer and was a source of significant stress. In August I filed a complaint with ******* ****** corporate. It took 3 weeks, but *** Khatib eventually refunded my $1,000.Late fees and interest to the federal government and the State of Illinois, plus the cost of getting my taxes done at the last possible moment came to $5,693.58.My new tax preparer told me that the late fee I had to pay to the state could have been avoided entirely if I had just known to pay 105% of the previous years tax by April 15. Khatib surely knows this, but I was not informed. Khatib also knew that the longer my taxes went unpaid, the more I was accumulating in interest. Had he done my taxes in a timely manner I would have been only 6 weeks late in paying my taxes, rather than 6 months.Through my complaint with ******* ****** corporate I requested compensation for how much this cost me, in addition to the months of anxiety.The response: due to the complexity of your tax return, the office decided not to proceed with filing and refunded any fees that you had advanced to them. At this time, they have declined any responsibility for the compensation you requested.This in no way addresses my complaint of being ignored for 4 months while Khatib held my money.It is also a bald-faced lie. Khatib did NOT decline to do my taxes because of the "complexity" of my return. Proof: after enduring months of stonewalling, I filed my complaint with corporate, he offered to do my taxes for half-price.And, a tax accountant eventually did my taxes in about an hour without difficulty.So *** Khatib is either a liar, or a liar who is incompetent to do taxes.
