I would like to shed light on a situation I am currently experiencing with Lindow Properties as a company. I have been a tenant for over 2 years moving into property 05/01/2020 and I am now being forced out due to unforeseen circumstances. Lindow Properties has denied accepting ERAP(Emergency Rental Assistance Applications) for very selfish reasons. I was advised applications are not accepted because payments from ERAP program are not received in a timely manner that best suits the companies’ needs to pay their bills on time. As a country made up of all people from different walks of life, we all have experienced tragic loss and suffered in many ways when it comes to finances, losing family members, and or being evicted from homes. Everyone is still regaining and building post COVID 19. I have kept an open communication relationship with Lindow Properties to my best ability through this devasting hardship detailing what I have experienced. I tragically lost my mom to COVID 19 and everything started to spiral downhill for me and I was abruptly laid off so making on time rent payments became impossible due to my mother’s unexpected passing. I have pledged and have been more than transparent with Lindow Properties informing them that I am now a full-time employee. I am simply asking for a chance to redeem myself but instead of being granted that opportunity I was served with a 5-day notice and a non-renewal notice. Lindow properties has not been understanding during this financial and mental hardship. Thanks, ****** *********

We feel that we have shown good faith over the past 14 months and have done our best to work with her.  We have accepted the ERAP (rent assistance) 3 times.  Over this time period, she has paid one full month and a partial month herself.  The rest has been paid by rent assistance.  At this point, we do feel that she needs to look for other living arrangements that she can better afford.  It typically takes about 3 and a half months to get paid from rent assistance.  We do have our own mortgage payment to make on the property.  It is unrealistic to expect us to continue in this manner.  She is currently behind two months' rent.  It will be 3 months come November 1.  We have been exceptionally understanding and have attempted to work with her for an extended period of time.  We were just informed that she now has a full time job.  At this point, we feel it is best to continue with the steps we have already taken.

I am rejecting this response because: Lindow Properties is a multi-million dollar company who has several properties and one tenant who‘s facing financial and mental hardship will not default the company with making on time payments to conduct business as usual.

      Sincerely,

Yesterday, I paid rent in cash and I requested a written receipt. Shortly, after I left their office received an email from Lindow Properties stating that I had to move our by March 31, 2022. They claim that they are going to remodel my unit and so I have to move. I don't have anywhere to go and am disabled on disability. I don't have any money to move. I spoke with other people in my building and none of them received this letter. What the company had been doing was remodel units once the tenant has moved out, not kick them out. I feel this is retaliation because my unit had bed bugs and due to the dispute I have with the pest company. I guess they want me to live out of my car because it is the only thing I have. I have only ever paid rent late one time and it was yesterday, since 2014. This is causing me a great deal of stress and I would like them to work with me.

      Hello,

I am reaching out to respond to a complaint by **** ********, complaint ID ********

Unfortunately, we had already had in place the intention to remodel her unit this Spring.  We had actually already mailed the certified letter prior to her coming in to pay her rent.  She just had not received it yet.  We purchased the building in the Spring of 2020 and have always had intention to remodel a little at a time.  We had a couple of moveouts initially, but have not had any since.  We do need to continue on with upgrading the units.   We wound up attaching the letter to an email that we were responding to from her on the day she is referencing.  We thought it best because she was asking for a new floor, among other things.  We were unsure if she had received the letter or not at this point, so thought it best to email her a copy. It was in no way a response to her putting a stop payment on her check and then paying with cash.   We do not do remodeling of a unit while a tenant is in residence.  This is not a viable option to work with.  She is currently month to month and she is not the first tenant that we have asked to vacate an apartment so that we can upgrade a property.  Furthermore, we will not reconsider.  She actually has been sending many emails with threats and cussing.  She also has called and cussed at our office staff.  We feel her reaction stems from something else.  She had bed bugs, which we feel we are able to prove were brought in by her as there is only outside access to each unit, no shared common area, or interior areas.  She believed that her neighbor had to have brought them in while visiting.  We paid a  pest control company to do an inspection in the neighbor’s unit.  They found no evidence of bed bugs.  The tenant used the same company to treat her unit.  She insisted that there is something else in her unit besides bed bugs, and that the pest control company was wrong entirely.  The pest control company went back several times, inspected and found nothing.  They took pictures of the bed bugs to document what they found and treated.  They took care of the bed bugs and confirmed that they were no longer there.  **** said there were mites falling from her ceiling and biting her and that they must be coming from the attic.  She believed something must be living in the attic.  We had the pest control company do a thorough inspection and go ahead and do a general treatment of the attic.  The pest control company did not find evidence of anything living in the attic or anywhere that looked like anything could get in.  No other tenant had stated that they have heard anything moving in the attic.  This week she sent an article about no see-ums (not found in this area), I suppose to suggest that that is what she has in her apartment.  Luckily, as she is in an end unit and we had decided to start with her unit already, we should be able to get this apartment in tip top shape and she can hopefully find somewhere more suitable to relocate.  We wish her the best, but unfortunately cannot accommodate her desired settlement.

      Thank you,

      ***** ****** ****** ************ **** ************

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

This is in response to Lindow Properties response on my complaint.  They are making up things that I never said and lying about the remodeling of my apartment.
I never made any threats to anyone. I emailed them to ask for their help as they ARE my landlord.  I paid $700 for the exterminator, Not them. I asked for a new stove and kitchen floor because I asked 2 years ago and never got a response. I never asked again.  I NEVER said bugs were falling from the ceiling.
And if my apartment is on the schedule to be remodeled then the need to keep moving down and kick out my neighbor next and so on down the line because otherwise it’s discrimination.  My next door neighbor called them after they told me I had to move for “remodeling” and she was told “ IF and WHEN” they do her apartment then they will let her know.
If they would have helped in the first place when I was getting bitten I would have not gotten so angry with them.  I am still getting bitten to this day.  I have lost all of my furniture and a lot of other items. Plus my body looks awful from the bites. I am waiting on a biopsy result from the dermatologist that they took from one of the bites that won’t heal and I have to go back to dermatologist again.
These people have made a joke out of what I have been going through. I have never bothered anyone and I mind my own business but when you are being bitten day and night like I have been, and they have the pictures, it does something to you. They would most likely react the same way.
I am 61 and disabled and it’s very hard to find another apartment because of the income guidelines that they have. I only have so much money coming in each month and they are just throwing me out in the streets because of this. Where do I live now?  What if this was being done to their relative?  Would they think it was fair?

The owner was here this week and called me a liar and said that he paid for the exterminator which is untrue.  I paid $700 for him.  The owner of my building, **** ******, also said that my house was dirty so he wouldn't be surprised if there were bugs in here and I responded and said that I am in the process of packing and sorting to move because he is throwing me out and that my house doesn't normally look this way.

I asked him if he was going to throw out the other 5 older ladies that live in this building that pay low rent and he said he can't worry about low rent paying people because he just needs to make money on a property that he purchased.  He is a very cold, greedy man who owns  a lot of property in this area.  He doesn't care that people like us who have lived here a long time and can't afford higher priced apartments because we get SS or Disability will have a hard time finding a new place to live.

      Sincerely,

      **** ********
