    Pattern of Complaint:

BBB files indicate that this business has a pattern of complaints concerning

    • Consumers allege being contacted by Sky Auto through mailer advertisements. They have alleged the verbiage on the print Ad led the consumer to believe that Sky Auto were their current extended auto warranty group and that the consumers needed to contact the business with urgency.

The business has provided to the BBB an updated marketing mailer which has been been edited from  This edit was made as to not confuse consumers into believing they already are enrolled with the companies warranty services.

The edits made went from stating "Our records indicate that you have not contacted us to  have your vehicle service agreement ACTIVATED." to stating "Our records indicate that you have not contacted us to have a vehicle service agreement ACTIVATED"

We do only offer the best option to consumers unless their vehicle does not qualify, so the
advertisement is for the best level of coverage. We have summitted the clarification of terms for the letter and that should be reflect on the new letter.

    • Consumers allege being enrolled into monthly payments for an auto warranty plan without full knowledge of such enrollment.

We currently have a plan in place to ensure that customers are aware that they are entering into a payment plan agreement to make payments for a Vehicle Service Agreement. The customer is told a minimum of two times on the initial sales call that there will be monthly payments associated with the Agreement. There is a specific verification of the customer’s information and payment method that the customer confirms on the initial sales call.

Additionally, we send out the full contract terms and conditions as well as the payment plan agreement in writing for the customer to review during the 30- day validation period. Our plan of action is to continue to verify the information on the initial call and send the information in writing for the customer to review.

    • Consumers allege not receiving a full refund as requested for being enrolled into Sky Auto Protection without their knowledge.

Per the terms and conditions of the policy the customer is due a full refund in the 30-day validation period. Outside of that period they are due a pro-rata refund based on how long the contract has been utilized. This is stated on the initial phone call and also listed in the Vehicle Service Agreement. There are no restrictions to receiving a refund. We do not deny customer’s refunds. If there are any questions
regarding the refund policy or procedure we make sure we explain the process in detail so the customer understands the amount of refund that will be provided. We make sure that a customer is refunded properly whether by electronic transaction or physical check.

On 3/17/2023, BBB submitted a written request to the company encouraging them to address the pattern of complaints.

As of 5/3/2023, BBB has received a sufficient response from the business who is actively working on the patterns above with the actions included.

A re-review of the complaints on 8/17/2023 and 12/1/2023 has resulted in finding that the pattern has not been alleviated:

    • Consumers allege being contacted by Sky Auto through mailer advertisements. They have alleged the verbiage on the print Ad led the consumer to believe that Sky Auto were their current extended auto warranty group and that the consumers needed to contact the business with urgency.
    • Consumers allege being enrolled into monthly payments for an auto warranty plan without full knowledge of such enrollment.
    • Consumers allege not receiving a full refund as requested for being enrolled into Sky Auto Protection without their knowledge.

As of 1/19/2024 the pattern of complaints has not been addressed.

    Advertising Review:

BBB promotes truth in advertising by contacting advertisers whose claims conflict with the BBB Code of Advertising. These claims may come to our attention from our internal review of advertising, consumer complaints and competitor challenges. BBB asks advertisers to prove their claims, change ads to make offers more clear to consumers, and remove misleading or deceptive statements.

On 8/17/2023, BBB contacted Sky Auto Protection regarding their mailers and requested they modify their advertisement to meet BBB Code of Advertising and be more transparent as complaints about deceptive practices continued to be received by the BBB.

The business advertised the following on their mailers:

Sky Auto Protection contacts consumers through mailers that contain the following claims in an effort to strongly urge consumers to purchase its products, which separately and together, create a false sense of urgency:

    “Coverage ID: [number]
    Coverage Status: Available”
    “Call No Later Than: [date]”
    “RESPONSE TO THIS NOTICE REQUESTED”
“Our records indicate that you have not contacted us to activate a vehicle service agreement for your VEHICLE.”
“Please Call: 1-877-351-1210 and have your VIN number available to activate coverage.”
“You are receiving this notice to ensure no lapse in vehicle protection. As you may be aware, warranty expiration is based on the mileage and age of your vehicle. Call now to activate your coverage.”
“By neglecting to activate extended vehicle protection, you will be at risk of being financially liable for any all repairs once your factory warranty expires. However, you still have time left to activate your service contract on your vehicle before it’s too late. No vehicle inspection will be required.”
“This may be our only attempt to contact you about your vehicle service contract.”

Under Summary of Terms, it states:
    "12 months/12K miles          12 months/24K miles        36 months/100K miles
    Approval - TBD"

BBB Code of Advertising states (in part):

    1. Basic Principles of the Code

1.1 The primary responsibility for truthful and non-deceptive advertising rests with the advertiser. Advertisers should be prepared to substantiate any objective claims or offers made before publication or broadcast. Upon request, they should present such substantiation promptly to the advertising medium or BBB.

1.2 Advertisements which are untrue, misleading, deceptive, fraudulent, falsely disparaging of competitors, or insincere offers to sell, shall not be used.

1.3 An advertisement as a whole may be misleading by implication, although every sentence separately considered may be literally true.

1.4 Misrepresentation may result not only from direct statements, but by omitting or obscuring a material fact.

    21. Layout and Illustrations

21.1 The composition and layout of advertisements should be such as to minimize the possibility of misunderstanding by the reader.

21.1.1 For example, prices, illustrations or descriptions must not be so placed or displayed in an advertisement as to give the impression that the price or terms of featured products or services apply to other products or services in the advertisement, when such is not the case.

As of 1/3/2024, business has not provided actions they are taking to resolve the issue or modified the mailers.

I received a letter from Sky **** that my warranty on my brand new Elantra needed activated. I was told I would have a 1 time payment to activate my coverage for up to 5 years. I received a fraud email alert from my bank a month later saying I am being charged again from them. I did not agree to a contract. I called my bank and had to have my card deactivated so they could not charge me again. Again, I never agreed to a contract. Just an activation. They pretended to be my car's warranty provider through the dealer I bought from.Seeing all the negatively towards this company on the BBB, I can see I got somewhat lucky that I caught this scam earlier. PLEASE SHUT THIS COMPANY DOWN I'd love a refund from the company, but it would need to be in the form of a check because they will never get any banking information from me ever again.
