March 5, 2024 I started trade education with Cosmetology and Spa. Tuition and fees totaling $28,757.00 Tuition: $26,000 Books and Supplies: $2,000 Registration fee: $100 Sales tax: $175 Cost of Attendance: $ ****** Scholarships: $0.00 Final balance due: $****** I've been in class officially for 76 total class hours. The second line on the first page of my contract states I'm being charged for BOOKS AND SUPPLIES. I have NOT received any BOOKS other than my PERSONAL USE CELL PHONE. If I do not have a charger, which I've forgotten the first week of class (didn't know personal cell phone was a requirement), I had no other learning materials. Cosmetology and Spa have NOT PROVIDED any laptop/tablet. ALL WORK has been done on my PERSONAL PHONE. I'm in my first month and has NEVER been to a classroom. I'm on the CLINICAL FLOOR, where the more advanced students are working. I have no syllabus to let me know what chapters I'm supposed to learn from. The SUPPLIES I have been (will be) charged $2,000 for 3 clippers, clips, *****, cape, and blow dryer. The ENTIRE 76 hours of school, at least 30 of those hours are spent alone because they offered evening courses with NO INSTRUCTOR after 4:30 pm daily. Other than the TUITION charges for being in the building, I DO NOT know where the money is going. Being full or overcrowded and understaffed is not the issue here, they're only 4 students in my starting class. I'm afraid they are misappropriating funds for financial stability. Other campuses in the ******** state have all the materials, i explained were missing. I asked the financial aid advisor at the local campus about transferring before the allotted contract time expired, i was asked to give cosmetology and spa the opportunity to amend the issue and provide them with one (1) more week to make necessary adjustments. That week ended Friday, March 22, 2024. They still have not provided any learning materials, nor any materials outside of the ****** supplies.

The accusation of the student is baseless. There is nothing on this complaint that Cosmetology & Spa Academy feels has done something wrong regarding this student. CSA offers an open-door complaint policy. In this situation, this student was advised on how the curriculum works and received the necessary tools, supplies, and electronic books, and that all the training goes step-by-step.

In addition, the financial aid office did a fantastic job of helping this student to be eligible for over 10K in grants, so the tuition of the school will have cost this student close to  $16000

Per our enrollment agreement and student handbook the students are charged for books and supplies. The student received the digital book on the first day of attendance and even logged into the book and completed assignments. The school does have tablets for the students to use if needed; students can complete the assignments and tests via tablets, iPads, phones, or computers if they prefer. To keep costs down, the school does not offer refurbished electronics as part of the kits as some other schools may do this. The daily/weekly agenda is posted in the classroom for all the students to see. The students received their kit and supplies that first day.

We have licensed instructors on campus at all times and are available to help the students.

I attended a Cosmetology school with unlicensed instructors and many other issues I dropped the program because I was not getting the education I signed up for a long with several other issues. They are charging me 70% of my tuition even though I only did 39% of the program. From what I received compared to what was paid and what they still want me to pay them does not compare. I had unlicensed instructors, it was all unorganized and completely unprofessional. I did report to IDFPR also in a lot further detail.

The institution has strict mandated refund policies that are enforced by the State of ******** and the ********** of **************** We undergo numerous audits by these various entities and we have never been found to complete the refunds with any discrepancy.  The student was provided with this information as regards to the refund and the refund policy, there is no violation here and the instituion is entilted to retain a certain portion of tuition based on the hours.  All instructors at this campus are licensed.

I am rejecting this response because: That information is not true. The first instructor you provided me with was an unlicensed instructor to teach. There is no licensed instructor in the Cosmetology class room, there is only one instructor in the Cosmetology classroom whom, is unlicensed to teach. There is no licensed ****** instructor. The only licensed instructor is the current Cosmetology instructor. There is licensed teachers who fill in from other locations the day they know of anyone important coming into the building. I seen it happen with my own eyes. There is not enough staff and there is not many licensed either. I also started off on the clinic floor I was never put in a class room initially. Then I was moved from the floor to the class a handful of times. Nothing was organized and nothing was consistent this is the not the education that I was told I would be receiving. I was also told this was a self paced program in which it is not, I was told we would learn eyelash extensions, and nails in which we did not. I was lied to and mislead through this entire program. This is not what I signed up for.

      Sincerely,

Every instructor at the campus is a licensed instructor, there are licensed cosmetology, ****** and esthetics instructors.  The cosmetology program does not learn eye lash extensions only esthetics, you would not have been told that you would learn eye lash extensions.  Nails are done in cosmetology, theory and practical.  You did not stay for your entire program and so you may not have gotten into all of your subjects.  The program is not self paced, and has not been advertised as such.  Our program is comprehensive and adapts to all learning styles.

I am rejecting this response because:

My whole entire time there, there was not licensed instructors nor enough staff where needed untill the last teacher I had for a short period of time she was the only licensed. So 1 out of the 4 I had were licensed. There is a way to look that up and prove that just by showing who my instructors were in that time. So again, that is a lie. I don't know how your going to sit here and say otherwise like these aren't things i can't look up on IDFPR myself.. Also that is most definitely what I was told by ****** when I signed up that it is a self paced program, you guys decided to try and change it after the fact. Please don't sit here and try to tell me otherwise. I 100% was told that and that we would be learning eyelash extensions. I was there long enough to know what was going on I spent about 5 and a half months in there so don't try to turn this on to me leaving. I left because you guys did not honor the things in your handbook and you guys are not truthful at all. I think you should be a little more clear on the nails. You do manicures, NOT ACRYLIC OR GEL ECT. so again FALSE ADVERTISING. It seems as though this academy can't hold accountability for the things they did wrong and the misleading information they gave out to get enroll in this campus.

      Sincerely,
