I hired Lake County Movers to help me Move from my apartment on 7/08/2022. I hired them for 2 movers at an hourly rate of 167. They were scheduled to show up at 10am and stated they would call before coming. They didnt call until 11:30 and said they would be there by 12pm. Upon arrival there were 3 people and the agreed upon was 2 movers. When asking about the extra person I was told that because they were behind schedule they picked up another guy to help them with the move. They never discussed any additional charges. After the move was complete I walked into the hallway to find 2 of the movers talking and one turned to me to present the receipt for payment. On the receipt they had crossed off the amount of movers as Well as the price and wrote 3 movers and a new hourly rate of 220. I tried to resolve the issue right there and explain that this was not agreed upon nor my fault they fell behind and they did not discuss with me before picking up the 3rd person that I would be paying more and the movers response was well if there was only 2 of us you would have been paying even more then this because we would still be working. I am a single woman and did not want to argue with 3 men in my apartment because I didnt feel safe so I made the payment.Business response

Good afternoon,
This is a response to case #********, which is between Lake County Movers and **************************** *************************** called to receive a moving quote from Lake County Movers. The salesman, *****************************, quoted her 2 men for 4-4.5 hours based on the details that were given (list of items, location of origin & destination, what floor level, etc.) The hourly rate for 2 men is $167, so that would be an estimate of $668-$751.50. Since ***************;job wasn't an all day job, Lake County Movers scheduled a small move to do in the morning before. The job in the morning ended up taking longer than estimated. When the crew called at 11:00 stating that they just finished their first job and we're heading to their second job, the office advised that they should stop by the warehouse to pick up an additional crew member so they could get the job done quicker and make the customer happy. At that point the crew changed the hourly rate to $220. ******** ended up finishing the job in **** hours which came out to be a total of $715. That amount fell right in line with the quote that was given to the customer. If anyone from the ******************** would like to talk to us regarding the claim or would like us to send the paperwork, we'd be more than happy to do so. I am rejecting this response because: the establishment did not provide me an estimate amount they simply provided me the hourly rate for the services provided. Per the document provided it even proves that they gave a rate and time estimate for the job with 2 people assigned. They also did not contact me PRIOR to picking up a third person to confirm that I was willing to accept the new hourly rate and extra person to complete the job. As the documents shows everything discussed was crossed out and new quantities were written after the job was completed. This is something that should be agreed upon prior to a business making a decision they believe will benefit the customer not without consent.

Lake County Movers did notify the customer that it would take 2 men somewhere around 4-4.5 hours based on the information given. Lake County Movers admits to not notifying the customer of the added person. That was stated in the last response. The customer disputed the charge back in July through her credit card company. Lake County Movers provided the the documentation showing the correct amount that was billed.Customer response

I am rejecting this response because: My bank has nothing to do with the BBB and my decision to file a complaint here about how the situation was handled on Lake County Movers part. Due to the circumstances of the dispute my bank did not refund the money because the receipt was signed. That does not justify the way this business operates. The only reason I signed the receipt is because your movers tried to argue with me and go back and forth that I would be paying more if I had only 2 movers which was irrelevant. I am a woman and was home alone so I figured disputing with my bank was a safer route which now I know that I shouldnt have signed it. ****** learned on my part and I hope that you guys are more clear with future customers since you dont even have the decency to do what is right and refund the difference for not providing vital information.
