Date of work performed 04/20/24 Invoice #****** KSDR Epoxy Flooring LLC ******************************************** LLC-5.5 Articles of Organization states ********************* has been in business since December 12, **************** agreement: Gladiator Clear Epoxy, Gladiator Poly 85 topcoat, 5 boxes of Flakes Dispute: KSDR Epoxy Flooring LLC did not demonstrate the necessary expertise to properly install a new epoxy garage flooring. Our 4-car garage floor has noticeable areas that were not covered properly with the clear coat while other areas have excessive coatings leaving the colored chips unfinished, dry, exposed, flaking & sharp to the touch. When we contacted *******************, Owner of KSDR Epoxy Flooring LLC in ********** IL, we offered ***** the opportunity to inspect the property, he declined and said "Your trying to another coating for free". It important to note that Epoxy floor installation does not require a contractor license, leaving customers without recourse, in the event of poor workmanship. As a fellow retired firefighter we trusted *****, who is also is a firefighter for Coal City IL. We paid $2,000.00 deposit for this floor, at that time ******************* was reluctant to provide a receipt when requested. Upon completion we payed the remain balance of $2000 for a total of $4000 project.Despite listing 9 Years of experience on Home Advisor, ******************* is only registered with IL Secretary of State as of 12/12/2023, indicating a discrepancy.

      Complaint: 21903123

I am rejecting this response because:
We want to reiterate our position regarding the ongoing issue with our Epoxy Garage Floor Coating. We are 82 years old and have technology challenges, therefor have added in ******** to assist with ongoing communications.

As mentioned previously, we have serious concerns about the quality of workmanship performed by KSDR.  In our case, the top coating installed by KSDR, does not meet industry standards. Therefore, we would like to re-open this case.

See clip of industry standards, full report below:

After applying the top coat over decorative flakes, the goal is typically to create a smooth, even surface where the flakes are fully encapsulated within the clear coating. Ideally, there should be minimal to no protrusion of the flakes above the top coat, as this could affect the durability and appearance of the floor.

Prior to us addressing the inconsistencies in *********************** response letter, we have a Third Party inspectors report from PSI Americas, suggesting KSDR did not apply the top coat correctly.  The Top Coating is the basis of our complaint.  PSI Americas has been in this business for many years performing this same type of Epoxy flooring system, within large scaled commercial arenas. With their tens of millions of Square Feet of experience, we feel PSI's observation to KSDR performance provides enough evidence to allow us to peruse this matter further should ******************* continue to refuse to correct KSDR's poor workmanship.

The inconsistencies in *********************** response letter begin at the second paragraph where he states "....******************* and his family contacted KSDR requesting a second top coat for the entire garage floor...."  This couldn't be further from the truth.  Our communication with ******************* was to inform him the initial top coat was not applied with an even and full coverage of the flakes.  Even and Full Coverage is the proper finish of a top coating.  ******************* claims the top coat was even and believes the flakes are fully covered, we strongly disagree, which is why we requested an onsite meeting with our Third Party inspector to review KSDR's workmanship.  At no point did anyone suggest a "glossier appearance" or request a "complimentary second coat".  The purpose of a top coat is to incapsulate the colored flakes that were broadcasted across the floor.  The colored flakes should not be void of a top coating.

KSDR did NOT maintain professionalism throughout these communications Hanging up on the phone on the family and refusing to answer the phone or respond to emails or text messages, is not how a business should address customers concerns.  We then reached out to *********************** boss, ********************* from AMP of ********, for assistance, he agreed *****'s behavior should not have escalated the disconcert of the customer.

If a satisfactory resolution cannot be reached between KSDR and ********************, we will have no choice but to purse this matter further though a small claims court.

      Industry Standard Fact:
After applying the top coat over decorative flakes, the goal is typically to create a smooth, even surface where the flakes are fully encapsulated within the clear coating. Ideally, there should be minimal to no protrusion of the flakes above the top coat, as this could affect the durability and appearance of the floor.
However, there may be some minor texture or variation depending on the following factors:
      1. Thickness of the Top Coat: A properly applied top coat should fully cover and encapsulate the flakes. If the top coat is too thin, the flakes may protrude and become exposed.
      2. Flake Size and Quantity: Larger flakes or a high density of flakes may require multiple top coats to achieve a completely smooth surface.
      3. Application Method: The method of applying the top coat (e.g., rolling, brushing, spraying) and the skill of the applicator can affect the final finish. Proper technique is important to ensure an even layer.
      4. Surface Preparation After Broadcasting: After broadcasting the flakes and before applying the top coat, the surface should be thoroughly scraped and vacuumed to remove any loose or sharp flakes. This helps in achieving a smooth finish.
In general, a slight texture can be acceptable and is sometimes desired for aesthetic or slip-resistance purposes. However, visible and exposed flakes that can be easily chipped off or that create an uneven surface are not ideal. If exposed flakes are present, additional top coats may be necessary to fully encapsulate and protect the decorative flakes.

      Second Industry Standard Fact:

There are industry standards and best practices for applying an Epoxy top coat over decorative colored flakes or chips. These standards ensure a durable and aesthetically pleasing finish while protecting the underlying epoxy base and decorative elements. Here are the key steps and considerations:

      1. Surface Preparation

      • The substrate (usually concrete) must be properly prepared, clean, and free of contaminants.
      • Any cracks or imperfections should be repaired prior to applying the base coat.

      2. Base Coat Application

      • A colored epoxy base coat is typically applied first. This layer serves as the adhesive layer for the decorative flakes or chips.
      • The base coat should be evenly applied and must be compatible with the flakes and top coat.

      3. Broadcasting Flakes or Chips

      • While the base coat is still wet, decorative flakes or chips are broadcast into the surface.
      • The broadcast should be done to full refusal, meaning enough flakes are applied so that the base coat is completely covered and no longer visible.
      • The flakes must be broadcast uniformly to avoid an uneven appearance.

      4. Scraping and Vacuuming

      • After the base coat with flakes has cured (typically 24 hours or as recommended by the manufacturer), the surface is scraped to remove any sharp or uneven flakes.
      • The surface is then vacuumed or swept to remove any loose flakes.

      5. Application of the Top Coat

      • The top coat, typically a clear epoxy, polyurethane, or polyaspartic coating, is applied over the flakes.
      • The top coat serves to encapsulate the flakes, providing a smooth, glossy, and durable finish.
      • Multiple top coats may be applied to achieve the desired thickness and durability.

      6. Curing

      • The top coat must be allowed to cure fully before the floor can be used. Curing times vary depending on the type of top coat and environmental conditions.
      • The curing process must occur under controlled conditions of temperature and humidity to ensure proper hardening and adhesion.

      7. Considerations for Safety and Compliance

      • Proper ventilation and PPE (personal protective equipment) are essential during the application of all epoxy components.
      • Compliance with local, state, and federal regulations is necessary, particularly concerning the handling and disposal of chemical materials.

      8. Inspection and Maintenance

      • After the epoxy system is fully cured, the surface should be inspected for any imperfections or defects.
      • Regular maintenance, including cleaning with appropriate products, helps extend the lifespan and appearance of the floor.
These steps and considerations ensure a high-quality and durable finish when applying an epoxy top coat over decorative flakes or chips. It's also important to follow the specific product recommendations and guidelines provided by the manufacturers for each component used in the system.

      Thank you

      Sincerely,
