In May 2021 I hired Hills Roofing of Woodridge to repair a leak in our roof. The leak was causing a wet spot on the bedroom ceiling. Hills said it would cost $900 to repair some shingles and flashing next to the chimney. I asked to have the workers who did the job notify me before they came out because I work at home and knew it was likely to be loud, and also take photos before the repair, during and after. I wanted to see the work that they did and be able to describe it accurately if we had to replace the entire roof, which is 8 years old. I am disabled so there was no way to go up on the roof and inspect things for myself. They did not object at the time that we signed the contract. Red flags started to pop up when there was not a team of roofers sent to do the work in early June but just one man. He showed up with just 45 minutes notice and I didnt even realize he was at my home until he was on the roof. I talked with him as he came down to leave. I asked if he had taken pictures and could he please send them to me. He said he didnt know anything about a request for photos, didnt have a camera. Since he was only at our house a short time, I thought that perhaps the work wasnt finished. A few days later I contacted Hills and was told that the work was done. At that point I reminded them that I wanted photos of the job. They sent me one photo of my roof, saying the job was completed. Nothing was shown before or during the job. I was reluctant to pay them when I wasnt sure what had been done or if it had been done properly but I gave them a check and the job was paid. Now, just a short time later the roof is leaking again in the exact same place. I called HIlls Roofing, to ask that they come and assess what needs to be done and fix the problem. They said that they did not want to work with me and had no intention of fixing anything. I am not sure now if they ever really fixed my roof at all.

Homeowner contacted us on 5-21-21 and we actually went out to look at the job that day.  We quoted the repair work and homeowner accepted on 5-22-21.  On 6-7-21, 2 Service men were sent out and performed the quoted and agreed upon repair.  By the way they were there 3 hours contrary to the Homeowner saying that only 1 person was there for only 45 minutes (all of which is really irrelevant because the repair was already agreed upon and time and/or men on job site doesn't matter).  Homeowner was invoiced on 6-17-21 even though the contract states due upon completion.  After receiving the invoice we were contacted and questioned whether we even completed the work and a completed photo to prove the work was done was demanded.  A photo was sent as requested.  On 7-17-21 a Past Due Invoice was sent with a follow up phone call in which we were told a check was sent 0n 7-20.  ********** called on **** and **** and a text was sent on **** looking for payment.  Credit card numbers were given by Homeowner for payment both of which were denied.  Finally on **** two out of state checks were cut in which we had to go actually pick up.  On10-22 we were contacted by Homeowner that the leak was back and accused of not doing the repair.

This homeowner was difficult, accusatory and a liar in a number of instances not to mention difficult to collect the payment due for services rendered.  We choose not to help people who act in this manner.  On a final note, we perform hundreds of repairs in a season, thousands over our 36 plus years of being in business, and a few each season need additional work.  We happily help those who appreciate our service but we will NOT help this very difficult person.

I am rejecting this response because:

There are a number of irrelevant details that Hills Roofing cites in their response. These things have nothing to do with the fact that they agreed to perform a service, they were paid to perform that service, but the service was not performed satisfactorily and they did not accomplish what I paid them to accomplish repairing my roof so that it does not leak. Anything else is irrelevant. What they said they would do they did not do, therefore they took the money that I gave them and did not deliver the service that was agreed upon.
I hesitated to pay for their services in June because I suspected the work had not been done properly. However, because I could not prove my suspicions, I paid them. They make the fact of my hesitation clear in their response. Now I have clear evidence that they did not complete the work properly. If they had fixed the leak properly, it would not still be leaking four months later. Basically, their argument for not completing the work in a satisfactory manner is that they dont like me. It is not necessary or relevant whether or not they like me. What is relevant is that they agreed to do a job for a specific amount of money, which they received and then they did not deliver the service that was promised.

      Sincerely,

I would suggest to have an outside source to inspect  the work we did and inform us if it was not done correctly or satisfactory.  We are dealing with a roof that is not our installation and covered with solar panels limiting any further view.  We are not deceptive.  We delivered the contracted job.
