Hired Bobs septic 5/13/24. Receipt from them shows owner (me) cleared the lid myself. Receipt also shows the size of the tank- 1250gal. While doing the job, handed me the receipt, I paid cash. I asked the guy if he could tell me the size of the tank so I would know for future deck building placements. He told me but also mentioned he could mark the size. I said that's not necessary since construction will be several years out but he said when he got the lid open, he could tell me the size. I agreed. My contractor was on site for another building project on site happening. I wanted him there to talk to them about the tank size since that contractor would be doing future buildings.Although the lid was already uncovered, the worker started probing the ground looking for the edges/sides of tank. While doing this he punctured the gas hose leading to my pool heater. Natural gas was leaking. Knowing where the lid was would have allowed them to give me immediate measurements. There was no reason to do anything more to find the edges of the tank. They could have mesured across the lid since they already knew the tank size,My contractor came over & asked what happened. After realizing he had hit the gas line, HE PUNCTURED THE LINE FOR THE 2ND TIME! He tried to tell me he couldn't see underground so he couldn't know he hit a line. But he knew he hit the line & did it again. He laughed, said imagine the mess when we hit an irrigation line- floods everywhere. Did all this while smoking! They left..Called the receptionist, she told me the owner would call that day. I called back the second day and was given the owners number since he never called.. He argued with me & told me to call back with the receipt total for the repairs. That totaled $450 & they told me they wouldn't help do anything to fix mistake. If they won't fix their mistake, i want a refund at least. It was a private install so ***** wasn't needed. He hit it twice, he knew what he did.

We were called for a septic tank pumping and to obtain measurements of the tank for a future deck project. During the appointment, we encountered an unexpected error. A private gas line was installed in extremely close proximity to the tank. It was unavoidably ruptured during the probing process. However, the presence of the gas line was not foreseeable, no one but the person who installed it knew it was there. Customer may have known, but it was not relayed to us.  We firmly believe that our company cannot be held responsible for the puncture of the gas line under these circumstances. The installation of a gas line in such close proximity to a septic tank violates safety regulations and industry standards. It is the responsibility of the party who installed the gas line to ensure compliance with safety protocols and to prevent such incidents from occurring.

I am rejecting this response because:

the receipt handed to me as soon as they got on site showed the size of the tank so they knew the size and dimensions of the tank before they even got there.  We all agree that I had the lid cleared off and located before they got there.  Since lid to tank ratio are not asymmetrical, they knew exact dimensions of tank based on lid location WITHOUT doing any probing.  He knew he hit the gas line the first time, even mentioned as much.  No stopping to ask owner or contractor on site if there was a line below.  There was no reason to mention the lion near by since I just needed to be informed of tank size so the dimensions could then be found a number of ways- measuring across the lid, googling it, etc.  Never was there any probing needed to be done.  Never did they ask if there was anything they should be aware of before doing something they didn't need to do in the first place. Although the gas line near by was a private install, the "rules" of ***** is you ask before you dig... never did they ask me anything BEFORE they attemted to dig/probe

      Sincerely,
