Company sweet talked me into that they are affiliated with ******************* in ***, and that upon completion of their courses I will accepted to the Nursing program at *******************. After signing up, I contacted the college, and was told that (1) they are not affiliated with this company, and (2) these courses are valueless (3) I was never told that by signing up I'm also accepting an outrageous loan thru their own company called *** ******** finance. (4) the pricing is at least double than what I would be paying at a regular college, which they've lied to me that it at least 50% cheaper.

Thank you for contacting us and we are sorry for any misunderstanding. We actually do have an affiliation with Empire ****************** which you can find on their website along with a credit transfer guide. The issue is when a student calls admission that particular rep may not have information on all of SUNY"s partner institutions. This is why we prefer you work closely with us throughout the program so that we can facilitate your transfer. Regarding the cost of the program, our cost per credit hour is a bit less than half the national average CPCH. If there is anything else we can help you with, please do not ever hesitate to contact us.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined the response would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

[Provide details of why you are not satisfied with this resolution.]I was sweet talked into signing up to courses that have no value. I've called my advisor who signed me up the next day to cancel. Instead of sending me the cancelation form, She thread me along that she will send me proof that these courses will get me a degree accepted by the nursing program. When I proved her wrong, she said she will have a supervisor contact me. By the that time it was after 3 days and the person I spoke to told oh! I'm so sorry to hear this, but it's too late, you signed up and it's past 3 days. I've made it very clear that I do not have any previous college degree. I need to get into an online only nursing program. I've made it very clear to your company that I can only attend a nursing program if it's given online. There is no such course in ********. the only online course this college offers, is post graduate level, meaning that I need to come in to the course with a valid nursing degree. The courses you have sold me are worthless to me and I've explained that to your company's representatives.

You miss lead me into courses that I cannot utilize.

I was not told that I was signing myself into an outrageous loan of 13k+.

I was not given a fair chance to cancel.

All I am asking for is get me out of this contract and leave me alone!

      Regards,

      ***************************

Your original complaint was that you were told there was no affiliation with the school you wanted to attend. We provided a source where you could find that affiliation on the school's own website. You also suggested that our pricing was double that of normal tuition, but research will show you that our cost is typically half or less than half that of most US colleges and universities. You then reported that the classes you purchased would not apply to your degree, but you have access to the school's credit transfer guide. Each class that we provide was approved for transfer by the school. In your follow-up which was delivered today, you said that you only wanted a fully online nursing program. Since nursing requires clinical rotations, that simply does not exist. Our classes are 100% online, so there is absolutely no issue with that process; however, it is common knowledge that nursing requires clinical experience. No one here would ever tell a student they can earn a nursing degree without clinical experience. I would ask that you contact our offices to see what we can do to help you, but the information you were given is accurate.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined the response would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

I've contacted our offices many times, they all tell me they cannot do anything for me, once I'm outside of the cancellation timeframe of 72 hours. Bottomline, true your courses are online and true listed on Empires state's website I see your school listed there, but as I've made it very clear to your advisors, I cannot take in class nursing. They have outright lied to me by telling me I can do it online at this college. I'm new to this, and that's why I was so gullible in believing your advisor. I was not told I was signing up to a loan program, the courses costed ***** and you want me to pay ******. True I was sweet talked into signing. I was told that if I didn't sign within the hour I wouldn't be allowed into the courses for another whole semester, and so I blindly just signed what they sent me. I tried cancelling the next day, they kept pushing me off until it was after the cancelation deadline and then they told me too late. I'm not asking for a refund, just lets cancel this contract out and walk away. I haven't received any benefit from you that it should be deemed fair to take so much money. I haven't touched your courses and I've trying to cancel from day 1. It's not my fault that your representative strung me along that she will get back to me and then wasn't taking my calls going until it was after the 72 hour cancelation window.

Hello ******, we researched your claim and found that you enrolled for 16 classes on February 23, 2024. In our conversation on the phone with you yesterday you said that at the same time you enrolled with us, or shortly thereafter you also enrolled with another program and wanted to cancel your enrollment with us. Unfortunately, due to the status of your enrollment we cannot do that. You also specified in your complaint that you had received nothing from us including an "agenda for classes." Classes are covered in onboarding and classes have been available to you since your enrollment. We would ask that you contact our office by phone to discuss scheduling classes. Your classes are available now, and we sincerely hope you will avail yourself to the program you purchased. We are here for you, and we will do everything possible to ensure your academic success.

Once again, we have reviewed your original complaint and found the same information. We are glad that you contacted us and hope that you will use the program you purchased. The money you were charged were the scheduled payments you approved. Nothing in addition to that has been added. Your materials and classes are waiting for you. It is our hope you will contact us so that we can help you begin your program. You would have been provided information regarding how to start your program when you enrolled; however, you have the option of simply contacting us again to review the process. It is actually quite simple to start and navigate the program. We look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you for contacting us regarding your enrollment. I did research your enrollment and found that you called our office to inquire about a BSN pre-licensure program. Our representative spent considerable time with you to make sure you understood the program, the courses you would complete with us, the cost of the program and completion with one of our accredited university partners. Following that meeting you confirmed you wanted to enroll in the program. You purchased 11 courses and 5 labs on December 22, 2023. Since that time, you have completed 2 courses and passed. You are currently enrolled in anatomy & physiology and additional courses. You have made the January, February and March payments, which you agreed to. You stated that somehow, we tricked you, but you have completed courses and made payments on your account, so we are puzzled as to why you now feel you were tricked. If you would like to speak to someone regarding your enrollment, we would love to help you any way we can. We would ask that you contact our offices to discuss your program and receive a copy of your enrollment if you no longer have yours. We sincerely hope that you continue the successful path you are on. You are passing courses and moving forward. We certainly want to help you with that process.

They charged me for courses I didnt even take. They gave my banking information to {{**********************************, who started taking thousands of dollars from my bank account. {*** ******** }} in reporting on my credit report as original creditor claiming i have a contract with them. Distance learning has no student account or financial office. No record of payments for classes I'm being charged for. {*** ******** }, They threaten sell my account to a collection agency if I didnt unblock them immediately from taking money out of my account, while still reporting I owe them on my credit report when they absolutely can not produce a contract with their name on it.This is a scam. How are they allowed to get away with it. Ill be contacting the district attorney office, in their state. Theyre rudely telling me if I want out of the contract Ill have to pay 6000. They give me an email address stating I can use that to cancel the program, Ive already send 3 emails without any responses. These people are complete Frauds.

Thank you for contacting us and we are sorry for any confusion. Having thoroughly researched your enrollment, this is what we found:

You enrolled on January 10, 2024, completed the full enrollment package including your financing paperwork and paid the down payment. You purchased 19 courses which would represent approximately 50% of your bachelor's program and financed $12,893. You also completed your onboarding call on January 27th during which time the onboarding specialist reviewed and explained every aspect of the program. You were given ample time to ask questions and review your enrollment. There were no issues at that time. During that call you were placed in your first class which was Ethics. Considerable time was spent on the phone explaining how the program worked, the cost, payments, and processes during the enrollment call. You executed the full enrollment package and received a copy of it at the time of enrollment. Your enrollment was for all courses that you needed for the program, so you can take them as you navigate the program. We have never not taken a call from you. We are here to serve you and support you with anything that we have at our disposal to ensure your success. ******************************* is authorized to bill your account on behalf of ********************************************************************, so there actually is an enrollment package; the one your completed at the time of enrollment. We are so sorry you are disappointed, but we have delivered exactly what we promised, and we hope that you will contact us to get back into class. We want you to succeed and we are here for you. I encourage you to contact us today to restart classes. We are here for you!

Distance Learning Center is not true to their word.
No one had explain you have to pay money every time you take a test and the test was expensive.
They also didn't tell us that the **

I ask them to cancel my contract on numerous occasion and even talk with academic department and they assured it will be cancel. I understand that according to them you have to continue the program but what for when the service is not being rendered and **************** don't know who you are. We are sorry you are still confused regarding your program. We did respond to your questions within this medium earlier but will be happy to do so again. It would be more effective in helping you understand the program if you would contact our offices and speak to a counselor. You actually can begin your RN program with DLSI. DLSI provides most if not all the required general education and general elective courses for your degree; after which we provide a transcript that you would submit to one of our university partners where you complete your core classes and do your clinicals. We can only provide what you request and enroll for. Because we are not the degree granting institution, the state board would have a relationship with our university partner who would actually confer the degree. This was explained in detail as was the program we provide and how it integrates with the university to save you both time and money as you pursue your degree and ultimately your RN. We encourage you to contact our offices for any additional information you might require. We are here for you and will work as hard as you do to help you navigate your program successfully.

You purchased 6 courses and 1 test-prep program. When you complete these courses, we will provide a transcript that you may provide to your school where you will complete your degree. The enrollment was a rather extensive process so we are not sure why there would be any confusion regarding this process, but we would be happy to provide you additional copies of any documents you might need. We are sorry for any confusion you may have regarding your enrollment. Following your correspondence, we did a thorough review of your enrollment, and this is what we found. You actually enrolled on August 11, 2016. You purchased a program which consisted of 2 parts: DLSI and ****************** You were not charged twice for the same program. ******* provided the tutoring you purchased. The program we provided was to prepare you to challenge and pass college proficiency exams (test-out) for the courses that were required to graduate with your degree. You had also stated that you felt we represented that we were part of the institution. This is incorrect. We even state on our enrollment agreement that we are "not part" of any college or university. We assisted students with preparation to test-out of required courses and the school would then evaluate your test scores and when appropriate accept those tests you successfully completed to satisfy degree requirements. You further stated that our representative told you that your account would be removed as you did not use the program you purchased. We show no record of any such conversation. Think of this as if it were enrollment in the college or even a gym membership; if you do not attend class or do not go to the gym, the account is not forgiven. You actually made a number of payments, so it's difficult to imagine you were not aware of the enrollment. After a long-term delinquency, your account was turned over to a 3rd party. This is what we can do; we will extend your enrollment to give you ample time to complete the number of courses you purchased. Your contract expired a number of years ago, but we do want you to be successful. This will require you to negotiate payment of your loan, but we are willing to work with you. We hope to hear from you soon.

She never explained that I would not be able to get out of the contract. When I got my letter from the VA that I was approved for benefits, I called the school because i needed them to certify that I was attending in order to receive these benefits. I spoke to the **************** and was advised that they are a BUSINESS and not a school so they CANNOT certify me. I asked to get out of my contract and was told that is not possible. I don't want to continue with DLSI if they cannot certify me so I can use my VA benefits. They misrepresented themselves and committed false advertisement. I also feel they are taking advantage of a disabled veteran and his wife.

Thank you for contacting us. We are sorry you have had an issue with your program. You had noted that we sent your enrollment, but that you were not able to read it which was confusing as you had it and filled it out. The real issue it seems is your VA benefit. The courses you complete with us are accelerated and represent a reduction over the average cost of tuition in the US by more than 50%. They are also guaranteed to transfer into our partner program to satisfy graduation requirements. As you can guess, this program is very popular because of these reasons and our very high pass rate. Having said that, it is correct that VA benefits cannot be used here but absolutely can be used when we transfer you to the university partner to complete their courses and your program. So bottom line, we provide a very affordable option for the first year or so of your BSN. We provide financing or an even lower tuition if you pay up front. Either way you'll save money here and use your VA benefits at the university. Again, I am sorry for any confusion. Please feel free to contact us to discuss further. We look forward to speaking with you.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined the response would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

[Provide details of why you are not satisfied with this resolution.] Consumer called BBB with response.

She was misled by the representative she spoke to. The representative claimed that she herself was using VA benefits to pay for her own school and that was not true. They sold themselves as a school.  They then admitted that they were a company, not a school so she could not use her VA benefits. Was not able to read or print off contract after signed. Wants contract null and void because they misrepresented themselves. They feel the business is taking advantage of a veteran and his wife.

      Regards,

I am sorry you feel there was a misunderstanding regarding the enrollment process. The representative you spoke to is actually a veteran and does have VA benefits. You should be able to use VA benefits when you matriculate with the university. We provide private financing for our portion of the program, which was the paperwork you filled out seeking our financing. We are also very clear concerning our role in your education. We provide general education classes that are accepted toward graduation requirements by the university. On the enrollment agreement you completed, it clearly states that we are not a college or university, so that should not have been an issue. The good news is that we provide a platform for earning your general education credits in a very affordable and accelerated program. I'm not sure why you had an issue printing a copy of your enrollment, but if you don't have a copy, we will be glad to resend your signed enrollment. Please contact our student services department for that or any other help you might need to complete your courses.

I enrolled in classes with distance learning 1/30/23 and began taking one course the first week of February. After one week I realized that my work schedule and the school they recommended after completing the prerequisite courses for an associates degree would not be viable for me. I also looked into transferring the credits to another school that is closer to where i live not the 1.5 hrs each way for the school they recommended and it would not transfer. Contacted ***************************** and he told me I can not withdraw from classes because I signed a loan with *** ********. I was told wether i took classes or not I was responsible to pay for the total loan amount. I asked to speak to someone with authority and was told to email cancellation. I emailed and no one responded. I asked for the school's cancelation policy and all ****** said was to call *** ********. The school does not have a cancelation policy, i was never told i could not withdraw or if I did i would be responsible for the entire loan. I told ************** did not want a loan and he went ahead and file a credit and loan application and pushed me to sign in the spare of minutes without time to read. I called *** ******** which works with distance learning systems in their scam and deceiving practices and was told the same thing, pay or pay whether you take classes or not. I would understand if I had done half the courses but one week ???? i filed a complaint with FTC and the district attorney of Indiana, I also researched the school and found countless reviews all saying the same, It's a pattern and constant practice from this organization to deceive students and steal thousands of dollars from hard working people.

I'll do my best to address each of your points as they were originally explained. You purchased a program that consisted of several general education courses that will apply to your degree. Courses you complete with us are guaranteed to transfer to the school and program we discussed with you at the time you enrolled. This was explained in detail and you agreed to purchase the program and completed the enrollment and finance paperwork with expectations of transferring your credits into our partner institution. As with any retail purchase there is a cancellation period. You chose not to cancel and began your program. When you contacted us we did respond. In fact, more than 5 people spoke to you during the time you are referring to. We were surprised when you threatened staff and the company and cussed at student services staff after learning you could not cancel your purchase. These retail purchase terms are standard in most every environment. If you did  not keep a copy of the enrollment agreement you signed we will be happy to provide a copy to you and/or any agency you choose. Distance Learning Systems enters into every agreement in good faith and always provides the exact products and services purchased by our students. We've worked hard for over 20 years to assist students with various academic endeavors and have seen those that complete their work extremely satisfied with their outcome. As always, we would prefer to restart our relationship and help you earn the credits you originally came to us for. We look forward to helping you with your academic goals.
