We had our home painted by Smart Coat in June, 2014. We received a 25 year warranty on the paint job. Our house has some severe pealing issues and rust coming through. I've called several times in 2022 and 2023 and never hear back from anyone. One of the reasons we got this type of paint job was due to the warranty and how strong and high quality this paint would be. All I want is for them to honor the warranty, return by calls and come out and fix the problem..Business response

Smart Coat owner contacted me via text and we have communicated several times. He sent a guy to our house over 2 weeks ago to see the issues and we were supposed to hear back from them with a proposal. I cannot close this case until we know what they are going to do to resolve this matter to our satisfaction.Initial Complaint

We selected Smart Coat Painting Company, LLC after meeting the sales staff at a tradeshow to provide painting solutions for our home. After a thorough meeting with their salesperson in our home - we expressed our concern regarding our refinancing being obtained in order to complete the payment for the job. Going further, the salesperson assured us our deposit would be refunded should the financing not come through and even wrote in our contract "contingent on financing" in dated and expressed terms, meaning our deposit would be refunded should the financing not come through. After having this explicitly outlined in the contract, we felt confident in our decision to provide a deposit of $2600.00 for the job, or 10% of the outlined cost - specifically to obtain the discount provided during the consultation on the final cost of the job. Under the stated conditions, our materials were not to be tinted until we provided another 20% for the job for a total of 30% - then we would pay the final 70% once the job was completed. Upon receiving our rejection a few months later - the owner stated the materials had already been tinted. This was not in accordance with our previous agreement and is not our issue, as the materials should not have been tinted until another 20% had been provided. After repeated attempts to contact the owner and state our expectation a full refund be provided as stated in our original contract - he has continued to stand behind the excuse of "tinted materials" as a reason to not refund our deposit. This leaves us no choice but to resort to sharing our experience with other homeowners in hopes the predatory tactics used on us are shown to the public. This clear manipulation of the contract is a gross violation of our trust in small businesses and we are deeply disappointed in the way this has been handled by ownership. We are sorry customers are upset. We have offered to look at finance for them, cut the job size down, hold job until they are ready. We are trying to work w the customer. This was written 2 years ago and I kept calling trying to install this job. Finally the customer said their loan will be funded in two weeks. At that point, I said I will have materials tinted and ready when they get their funds. I did as I said and tinted all materials for the job. Then I get a call and customer vaguely says things have changed and we no longer want to do the job. That's when I told them I had already tinted all the material for the contracted job when they said they would be ready in 2 weeks. I was only trying to do my best with the information they have given me. Now I have tinted material that I can not use? I can still do a smaller project, help w finance, or even lower total job cost? I'm trying to find solution without taking total loss on material. The main issue is that they said they would be ready in 2 weeks. No one in 19 years has told me that and then told me otherwise? We are sorry that you are upset. We could do smaller job or a partial?

I have paid $18,500 in full to have my house painted with Smart Coat. I was not here when the crew left the job which was supposed to be completed. I found a few issues with the job the biggest being my vinyl siding on a ***** was dislocated from the taping due to different colors. The crew did not put back in place. When I got a ladder out to replace a metal star that had been hanging in that area I noticed the vinyl siding was slanted. When I pushed the panel back ** in it's correct location there is now a large area that is not painted. Another issue is on a back window trim where they pulled off the tape if also removed some of the new coating leaving it jagged all the way down. They also painted the front trim of my bay windows and I do not know why as the other windows on the front of my house were not so it looks odd. Their ladder bent my vinyl siding on the front of my house. I am hoping they can push it back into place. There are multiple locations where the siding meets but does not overlap and is not painted so the old vinyl shows. I notified the owner of the ***** issue and provided pictures on May 9th. On May 10th he said he would get someone out here the next day. On May 19 I sent him a message that I was still waiting and he responded saying they were supposed to be out there a long time ago and asked for my name and address. On May 25 I sent him a message saying still a no show and that I was getting a little irritated. No response at all since then. I want my house completed.Business response

Company states they were getting ready to take care of this issue, when they realized this was going to be an insurance matter. Company is moving forward with the insurance company to resolve this matter.Customer response
