The date of the transaction was April 9, 2024. My friend and I went to get an ear piercing at Juniper's Precision because according to their website the cost would be $15 for an apprentice piercing and then the cost of the jewelry. When we got there they told us the jewelry would be $20 for my medical grade metal ball earrings and $45 for my friend's gold Swarovski ******* ones. Since it was going to be $20 for mine I decided to get two ear piercings done since it was going to be so cheap and my friend decided the same. While they were sterilizing the jewelry they told us the price was going to be $115 (without tip) for mine and $125 for my friend. We were shocked. They told me it was $15 deposits for the apprentice fee then $40 for the two fronts of the piercings then $30 for the backs of the jewelry (never mentioned prior) and $15 set up, sterilization, and service fee (also never mentioned prior). At this point we were flabbergasted and did not know what to say because they already had started my friend's piercings. We felt pressured to continue on and pay the full amount by the piercer and the apprentice piercer. When we were done they told us we had to come back in a month to get the backs changed out to smaller backs that we already paid for, but when we got to our appointment that day (May 6th, 2024) they said it was going to be an additional $15 to get the backs changed out. We refused to give them more money and the main piercer upsettingly handed over our earring backs. When we brought up that the website was deceiving and the prices were not straight forward, the main piercer was defensive and just showed us our receipts. She claimed that "you can always say 'no,'" however they had already sterilized our jewelry when they told us the pricing so we did not think it was possible to say "no" at that point, nor did it seem like they would have let us.

      Business response

      05/17/2024

      Good morning *******!

The two ladies never refused service from me; they just asked if they could have their jewelry without it being installed, which is totally fine. When I came back with their jewelry they started berating me and my staff about how deceitful we were even though everything was listed in the terms and conditions that they signed before the piercing. They had prior knowledge of service cost and jewelry cost. They started to put me down as a woman but saying I was "too intimidating to young girls'' I was very offended because I am a 30 year old woman. I told them sorry and I could offer them a gift card and they said to me they were not interested in any sort of refund.

I attached my terms and conditions that clearly identifies all their issues and their paperwork that shows they said they read and understood the terms and conditions.

Thank you for your time! reach out to ************ for any other questions!

      Customer response

      05/17/2024

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined the response would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

I want to begin by saying, I appreciate the business for responding, however, what the woman said was not entirely true. Neither my friend or I berated her or her staff. We went in to pick up our piercing backs and told the woman (very kindly and out of concern for other people wanting piercings) that their website is slightly confusing and misleading. We were very calm and did not raise our voices or act rudely. It was out of genuine concern for others being confused that we even mentioned the website being confusing. I did mention how it can be deceiving for young girls (like myself and my friend) because of the way they have everything set up which was not meant to offend the woman. I am only asking for a refund now because, after reflecting, I feel as though we were deceived into paying more than we should have for the services. Even just a partial refund would suffice as I feel we were tricked into paying more than we should have after they had already started sterilizing the jewelry and we felt we could not back out per se. I really do not have bad intent with this complaint, but I feel as though the company has a reputation to uphold and I do not want to bring them down because of this encounter. Thank you.

      Regards,
